Seems to me that newly-released models have wrinkles that are ironed out over the few weeks after release; I haven't played with the gpt-5 api yet but I'd make sure it's operating strictly as an llm and not inferring the query to do any reasoning operations. I've learned from past projects to stick with a model that works and then thoroughly smoke test new models in a sandbox. Good luck!
