Doug Kittredge bow hut
Well, I’m kind of dating myself, but does anyone remember Doug Kittredge I used to buy all my archery equipment from him . his shop was in Mammoth Lakes, California. Lakes California? I also knew a man named Jack Howard, who made Bows. I went on an Alaskan hunt with Jack. Does anyone remember these guys from the old days?

@Grant Richardson I still wish I had that game master jet. If I remember right, it was 66 inches long.we hunted south West Alaska on an island which a famous clothing manufacture has named it brand after…,,Kuiu Island. The bear hunting is still fabulous there but now you have to draw permit.

@Grant Richardson very nice
broadheads
I wondering who on this page has experience with single bevel broadheads? I have 300 grain tuff heads, but have not harvested an animal with them. I found out they are the opposite bevel to my feathers. who out there has recommendations for different single bevel recommendations.

I hunt elk with the 300 gr tuff head. Right bevel, i’ve had fantastic luck Shooting a Safari tuff.204 arrow. i’m shooting a Schaefer silver tip at 67 pounds. I’ve shot two cows and one small bull. The small bull was a complete pass-through taken out ribs on both sides. As I get older, I’ve dropped poundage and I am shooting a VPA three blade. Presently shooting a black widow bow at 50 pounds.
Experience
For traditional deer hunting, do you guys prefer hunting a tree stand or from the ground? What is most effective?

100% tree stands for deer and I always do wait for a nice one. For bear hunting 100% spot in stock for elk I’m on the ground the whole time but I have put tree stands over wallows and have got elk that way, mule deer is all glass in stock. I’ve gotten two mountain goats in British Columbia, but I’ll never do that again one of the hardest things I’ve ever done shot one grizzly and British Columbia in the spring that was glass in stock. That’s it for me.
How much of your deer gets used?
As I write this, please know my goal is only to inspire. Although I've been hunting my whole life, I feel a tinge of sadness whenever I shoot a deer. My family and I only eat venison and wild pig for red meat, so I try and tag out my six deer each season to ensure we have enough meat for the whole year. I have discovered that by using absolutely as much of the deer as possible, I feel like I am honoring the life I have taken. One skill I have mastered is oak tanning each hide and then using that leather to make various items for hunting. Below is a pic of a stalking quiver I recently finished from a buck I took last season. My next project will be a carrying case for one of my take down bows. If anyone ever wants to trade ideas, I'm always open to suggestions.

Total respect for the animal. That is so refreshing nowadays thank you for honoring the animals that you harvest like that.
