Gretsch Rancher Jr.
Bought a Gretsch Rancher Jr acoustic-Electric this evening. As stated in a previous post I was looking for something solid that I could gig with. Was pleased with how full bodied this thing sounds. The neck feels more like an electric. Big enough to make a huge sound but small enough not to be cumbersome. I love my ‘64 Epiphone Texan but it’s a big guitar. My case reminds me of a cello case. This is a lot easier to handle. Great sounding pickup. It has a Fishman preamp in it. Great looking and sounding guitar. From the Thumbnail markers, the stock locking strap buttons, triangular sound hole and steer logo. This thing is a sharp. Total eye catcher

Kit Bass
My son (15), has taken up playing the bass this year. He has excelled so quickly that he is now in a really good band. I’m very proud. For his birthday, I want to give him a bass I built. My question for everyone here is, have you ever built a kit bass? I bought a kit and have decided to upgrade the pickups to Seymour Duncan SPB-3 quarter pounders, Gotoh tuners, a Gotoh bridge and Seymour Duncan pots. I will line the electronics with copper tape also. I will be finishing it in heavy metallic flake purple (similar to the purple on old Road Runner cars called Plum Crazy). I want this to be a great bass for him. What am I missing or not considering? Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer!

It sounds like you have a solid plan. I have never built a bass so I have no helpful input on electronics and such, but what a fantastic undertaking to learn from
Pedals
I’m looking for opinions for my grandson’s birthday present this year. He wants pedals. I’m trying to find the right pedals for a 12 year old? Do I go with some individual pedals or a single multi-effects pedal?? If I choose one or the other, which ones should I choose for him?? Opinions please!!!

I have the Mooer GE100, same one that Omni has. It’s a multi effects unit with an expression pedal. I’m phasing it out in favor of individual pedals, but that’s because I’m more particular about the delays and controlling overdrive settings. It’s a solid unit. Would definitely recommend using a power supply instead of battery though.
Dream gear
If you were given $15k, to be used only for musical gear, what would you spend it on? Mine would probably be a McPherson. I held and played one and fell in love with it.

Love this question! I love to window shop and spend money I don’t have, lol. I would grab a Les Paul Custom 60’s in that beautiful sunburst with that classic hard shell case that gets run over by a truck. A full Marshall JCM 800 stack. A Sure body pack wireless system. For effects, I want the EVH Wah due to the ‘worn out’ component sound that was designed and built in along with the complete EVH line of pedals. A TC Electronics Quintessence Harmonizer, Dunlop EP103 Echoplex Delay, MXR MC401 Boost, Digitech HammerOn Pitch Octave Pedal, BOSS VO-1 Vocoder Pedal, BOSS RV-6 Digital Reverb. Would also love to have an old Gretsch Country Gentleman. An old Rickenbacker, a Gibson dreadnought 6 and 12 string acoustic.
Electric funeral cover
My band is working on a cover of electric funeral. I apologize for the rough mix, this was recorded live in our rehearsal space so it’s far from perfect. We tried to make it our own a little while still paying our respects to the original. Let me know what you think!

Very nice. I like the flavor of the bass line. At first it was distracting because it’s not exact, but as I kept listening, that little change to make it your own really fit and added color. This is quite possibly the most difficult Sabbath song when it comes to timing. As for vocals, nobody.. and I mean NO ONE ever does Ozzy like Ozzy did. Jelly Roll showed how bad it can get, so I can’t say anything on that except to commit to it.

@Jordan Oster absolutely! Ozzy is hard. His style was so unique that is was more than just vocals, it was more like a one of a kind instrument that no one else owned and became as much a part of the song as the main riff. I wasn’t trying to critique the vocals, just encourage.
