My nephew brought a Yamaha RBX170EW over and asked if I could get it to playing condition. My sister was over the previous night and told me about it and I knew it was going to be a full restoration project when she told me who gave it to him. She only mentioned that it had no strings but failed to tell me about the rust. But he really seemed like he wanted to play bass, he has played a viola for about 6 years now though middle and high school. So I think he’s ready and at least the body and neck are good.
So I bought this no name acoustic for $150. Doesn't have any indication on who made it. It sounds great but it needs fretwork done. When you push down on the strings it bends the note so when I'm applying the usual amount of pressure it sounds a little sharp or out of tune. If you barley push down it doesn't. I would like to take this opportunity to try to do some fret work. I'm going to get a set up kit to do it. I have watched guitar set up videos before, so I kind of know what I'm doin haha. Any tips though? I am also going to try to install a pickup and possibly change the tuners. It seems to hold the tuning well so I don't know if I will do that but we'll see.
The Donor came in the mail today. It is an absolutely unbranded tele knock off. Sounds like trash right now but it was only $50, and I do plan to remedy that!
Hi everyone, I am starting to collect parts and make plans to build myself a “Jerrycaster”… wondering if anyone else in here is using an OBEL, and if you’d be up for a little friendly “brain picking”? 😁
