Coffee Chat Today (Rescheduled to March 25th)
Hey everyone, I tried to boot up the coffee chat today, and for some reason, Zoom doesn't appear to be working. I've tried a few troubleshooting steps, but nothing seems to work. I've rescheduled the chat to March 25th. See you then! Cheers

@Lee Lahti Thanks Lee, that could be it. I didn't even know they experienced that earlier this week!

"Post Interview Thank You Email" Question
I may have an upcoming interview for a Energy position that requires experience in Transmission & Distribution, Project Development in Renewable Energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems. I do not have any direct experience in these areas. However, I have interviewed podcast guests on these topics and created LinkedIn posts to showcase my knowledge and learnings in these topics. Would it be ok for me to share links to these podcast episodes and LinkedIn posts in the post-interview Thank You Email to the Interviewer/Hiring Manager?

Totally fine Arjun, but keep in mind its pretty untraditional and this experience normally doesn't matter to a Hiring Manager. Potentially worth noting regardless.

@Arjun Chowdhury Do you have any projects you could point to?
Exercise/Project Presentation in Interview Using Real Data
Anyone have experience indicating their uncomfortable providing a presentation deck prior to the interview where you will review it with the company? The exercise includes reviewing a live Amazon listing for the brand and identifying the top 3 areas for improvement and any tests to run for measuring success and impact. In addition, a dataset of advertising metrics were also provided for me to review and share 3 key insights. From what I can gather, this data is actual/real and not altered based on the Google Sheet including 10+ from the company. I have no issue completing the exercise and am actually looking forward to it. My concern is I'm not being paid for this and providing the completed exercise prior to the actual meeting as it will contain actionable business strategies. I already have the email response drafted up stating I'd rather present the exercise for the first time in the meeting rather than sending it beforehand. Any suggestions or insight from their own experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

@John McGough It's always a red flag when companies ask for X, Y, and Z in advance of an interview without clear expectations, boundaries, or compensation upfront. The fact that they only mentioned compensation after you pushed back tells you everything you need to know.

@John McGough Any update John? What ended up happening? Was it as you expected?
Secret Test of Every Hiring Manager
I just finished reading a book, which states that every Hiring Manager has a Secret Test during interview. They are looking at your personality: if this person is easier to communicate with, friendly and appears enthusiastic about the role. The way to improve likability is to focus on the following 3 aspects during interview: 1.Voice and Energy 2.Building Rapport 3.Aiming for Mutual Fit

People want to work with people they like. If you don't seem interested in the role (and are too laid back for example or introverted), you likely won't appear to be as interested in the role as someone else with better 'on-screen energy.' It's not really a secret test, they just want to ensure that they want to work with you.
Informational Interview Question
Do informational interviews fail to convert into job referrals or introductions of colleagues in the company due to which of the following: 1. Lack of experience in the specific role 2. Inability to build rapport with the person you are networking with (Likability issue)? Would someone still refer you or introduce you to someone in the company, if you lack the experience?

Hey Arjun, It depends. Typically if you're failing to move past the informational interview and into a referral, you either haven't connected with the person, haven't connected with the RIGHT person (they don't ever refer anyone as they're uncomfortable), or more likely, you struggle to shift the conversation to a referral and clear ask.
