Coffee Chat Today (Rescheduled to March 25th)
Hey everyone, I tried to boot up the coffee chat today, and for some reason, Zoom doesn't appear to be working. I've tried a few troubleshooting steps, but nothing seems to work. I've rescheduled the chat to March 25th. See you then! Cheers
Secret Test of Every Hiring Manager
I just finished reading a book, which states that every Hiring Manager has a Secret Test during interview. They are looking at your personality: if this person is easier to communicate with, friendly and appears enthusiastic about the role. The way to improve likability is to focus on the following 3 aspects during interview: 1.Voice and Energy 2.Building Rapport 3.Aiming for Mutual Fit
Coffee Chat Today
I really appreciated the Coffee Chat session with Regan today. We talked about what interviewers and companies are looking for. The concepts of Net Positive Contributor and Golden Triangle were new to me and I really appreciated learning about them. Thank you for your valuable feedback during the Coffee Chat today Regan! It was extremely helpful.
Second Coffee Chat: Key Takeaways & Topics of Discussion
We covered a lot in our recent coffee chat discussion on job searching, career development, and personal branding. Here are some of the main takeaways: 1) Resume & LinkedIn Optimization – Treat your LinkedIn profile like a landing page. Optimize it with relevant keywords, a strong banner, and a professional photo. Avoid the “Open to Work” banner if your primary goal is to network. You'll face further resistance from many people while using the banner for networking. This is especially true for senior roles. 2) Networking & Job Applications – Direct outreach is more effective than just applying online. Attending industry conferences and leveraging existing connections can help." 3) Job Market Insights – Brand names on a resume matter. The larger the company you work for (if well known), the better. 4) Technical Assessments & Job Search Strategy – Many experienced professionals struggle with them. Understanding different platforms and preparing strategically is crucial. Looking forward to our next session on Monday, March 31st! Let’s keep the momentum going.

A mistake I've been making in my interview process
I'm writing this so that others don't make the mistake I made and to hold myself accountable. Since I'm a software engineer, I often get asked about certain process that were implemented where I've worked in the past. I've often found myself floundering because in the moment nerves would kick in and I would forget crucial information such as the following: - Process, from product grooming and development processes - Tools that were used, this refers to any tech related tools or tooling. - Not being aware of industry jargon (I'm bad at jargon and I think this cost me in an interview I had) Steps I'm doing to fix it - Literally write out word for word everything in the tech stack I worked on. - Write out exactly how project roadmapping and grooming works - Write down the name of each tool and what it was used for (for example SNYK for npm package security, Optimizely for A/B testing, Opsgenie for monitoring, etc) - Write down how system design and architecture was done This is a work in progress. I'm also writing out common questions and answers (IE tell me about a project failure you had)
