12 sided hub
Made a Hub for the roof. Used a pocket hole jig and pocket hole screws, that made it easy to pre-drill the holes with a consistent angle and 2 1/2 inch screws. Split the wood on the first brace for the support, so after that, also pre-drilled all the holes for the support. Including a photo of my favorite counter sink, tapered drillbit. Pre-drill to prevent this kind of splitting.

Cob oven in LA
Hey y’all, i’m down in LA now visiting the Oven. We built here a few months ago seeing how it’s doing after being rained on. It never received a code concealer so some of the plaster came loose so I just mixed up some plaster with sanding clay and put that on there to screw it out and when it dries will go ahead and put the oil sealer on it’s ideal to have a roof over it though hopefully it’ll happen as well

My Plan in Ensenada
My partner and I run a kombucha business with 2 other small families in Ensenada, Baja California. As a group we purchased a 500 square meter lot on the outskirts of town last year. We finally have time this winter to get started. Our first plan is to build a cob structure similar to this: https://youtu.be/QwyHIoqgTrc?si=4ErY0kKmOx9WnW-J I had been viewing Sir Cobelot’s videos for the last several months but somehow missed the Living Earth site until yesterday. I like the idea of using recycled material and how quickly you can create a living structure using Sir Cobelot’s method so I’ve decided to pose to my community the idea of creating some cobins prior to embarking on the cob house. Coincidentally, we built a bodega last year out of pallets and plywood and planned on covering it with cob. So we were on the same vibration as this community. I plan on starting to apply the cob this weekend. I will send picture of our progress!

@Sir Cobalot thanks for the clarification. I think we will start with a pallet cob design to get something up quickly and try a real cob house later in the year.
I'm in
Greetings to my fellow cobers! Very excited to create a living community in Ensenada, Baja California, with my kombucha business partners and say goodbye to monthly rent. We bought a little plot of land and ready to get busy. There is much need for affordable lifestyles down here and I am excited for myself and whoever we can help free themselves from Babylon! Happy New Year!

@Shannon Carpenter nice, if you need any advice let me know. We just started making hard kombucha the last couple of months.
Soil Test
I took 2 samples of soil from my lot. Sample 1 was taken from sub soil that was recently uncovered by a mini excavator. Sample 2 was taken from a big pile of soil that was recently moved around by the excavator. Will these soils work for cob construction?
