How this Community works

400sq ft Cobin Time & Cost Estimate?
@Sir Cobalot How long would you say it takes to build a 400sq foot palletable cobin with about 2-4 workers per day???? Aaaaand what are your general cost estimates (range) for a palletable cobin? I am making a plan for build right now and am hoping to build it with friends and family volunteer help in approximately 3 weeks (November... before the cold sets in. I am in Missouri), working 4-8 hours daily with 2-4 people at all times. I want to know if I am waaaaay off on my time estimates.... I have watch a lot of your videos but I don't have a good sense of how long things are taking with how much help 😅. Thank youuuuuu! I am so excited to build my little cobin.

Rainwater Collection
Hi, I am new to the community here :) I am also only a few months away from living mostly off grid--I will have access to power for charging batteries. I joined this community because I think the combination of pallets, straw, and cob is genius and I want to learn how to put it all together! Although I love the many benefits (and the beauty) of a living roof, I was wondering if anyone has built something like this with a metal roof for rainwater collection? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

The Cobin "Foot"
@Sir Cobalot Okay... so after watching the cobin build videos and I am wondering about the wood plank foot directly on top of gravel under the pallets... wont that get wet and rot the same as the posts being in the ground without protection from moisture?? I am in Missouri, so lots of rain and snow. I guess my question is, do I need stones or cement block to elevate the pallets+cob so that it rain and snow don't ruin the bottom of the cobin? It doesn't seem like that is shown as necessary in the videos, except the one video with the pier blocks had cement blocks all the way around like a sort of foundation on top of the gravel, but I wonder if that is just because dependent on location? I DO think I am going to go the pier block route, sooo wondering then if I should use stacked lime stone in-between each pier block or cement block or nothing? Also, what is best practice for cob over the pier block? Will it need mesh or can I just slap on cob directly to the concrete? Wanting all thoughts and wisdom! Thanks <3
