Doing an earthen plaster over a cob wall
I just thought I’d share this little video on how I am applying an earthen plaster on an existing Cob wall. When it dries, I’ll probably do a clay paint with 40 parts flour paste, 30 parts very fine sand and 30 parts clay with an oxide added to give the Plaster extra water protection. I’m doing this work now at the Cob Cottage company in Oregon . There will be many cobbortunities here if anybody wants to come help, although I don’t know if anybody in our group lives in Oregon. It’s an amazing place with a whole bunch of little Cob Huts built over the years during various workshops.

My most recent building project -- Not cob yet, but hopefully soon!
Hi everyone! I have gotten behind on this course due to my own most recent building project. Unfortunately, it is not a cob project (but, those will be on the way soon!!), but is a simple, totally off-grid pine Scandi-hut style cottage that I built with friends and family to set up for my office space for work to see clients and host classes. I would love to build something similar to this out of cob in the future on my property. I think that would be an amazing space, way better than the current pine space. In the future, as this building wears over time and the roof is no longer good, I plan to turn it into a live roof with moss or turf and to potentially add natural plasters to the internal walls. I love how much flexibility cob and natural finishes give us, even for traditional building projects!

Cobin site. Has anyone done a greenhouse roof with a cobin?
Hello, this is a picture of the site for my cobin that will be my greenhouse and Art Studio in colorado. I'm currently leveling the ground and digging out a trench for a french drain since the site is at the bottom of a hill. I'm also collecting pallets and I'm planning for the roof to be part living room and parts triple layer polycarbonate to let light in. Has anyone done a roof like that before?

Putting in round windows
I realize that this is a finishing phase of the building process that few of you are actually able to apply currently but I thought you might it interesting. It’s nice to have wooden shutters because you can have the windows completely open during the day without a screen and then close them at night when the mosquitoes are active. The color you see on the outside is a Lime wash with a green iron oxide added and also a brown oxide on the inside. It is a clay paint made up of equal parts flour paste, very fine sand, clay and oxide for color. I also added a little bit of peppermint essential oil for a nice subtle fragrance and also to help keep insects out of the structure. We’ll see if it helps.
