12 sided hub
Made a Hub for the roof. Used a pocket hole jig and pocket hole screws, that made it easy to pre-drill the holes with a consistent angle and 2 1/2 inch screws. Split the wood on the first brace for the support, so after that, also pre-drilled all the holes for the support. Including a photo of my favorite counter sink, tapered drillbit. Pre-drill to prevent this kind of splitting.

You can do everything you need to do for the cabinet with the most basic pocket hole jig. So just get that, since itโ€™s a small investment and get to know the tool, if you donโ€™t use it very often, no need to get an expensive tool that just sits around. Also, the basic jig is very small and will fit in a drawer, versus the larger clamping jig, will require some more space to store. So itโ€™s just a matter of what your needs are. A professional jig wonโ€™t really help you that much for this cabinet, but if you end up using the tool a lot, it will just be more easy and efficient over time. The pocket hole is definitely perfect for a cabinet, good choice.

Roof beams
Got the roof beams up just in time before the sun set. They went up pretty quick and was pretty easy to do by myself as the joist hangers were already attached to the hub, I could just slide the beams in place and then climb up on the ladder and screw them in.

not sure yet, what are your recommendations for the insulation?

yes, I will do the fascia next, and the inner support. Do you recommend the inner support along the top plate? And additionally, another a bit further inside? I was going to do plywood, but donโ€™t have the material yet. I also have a bunch of fence boards that I collected, would those work or would that not be strong enough?
Setting the height
Put in the walls and cut the posts to the final height. The Skil saw is a bit heavy, so to make sure that first cut was nice and straight, I cut a spacer and a guide and nailed that to the post, that helped make nice clean straight cuts.

Applying cob onto plywood
Last year we built a little bodega out of pallets and plywood. Before a stumbled upon Living Earth structures my plan was to screw a bunch small branches onto the plywood so the cob would have something to grab onto. After watching the Level videos of the acobe oven Iโ€™m thinking that the branches are an overkill and all I need is to apply some clay slip to the plywood. Thoughts? Iโ€™ve attached a picture of the bodega. My friend started to cover the bodega with tar paper and chicken wire. Iโ€™ve since removed the chicken wire and tar paper. We built a little stone foundation around the bottom of the structure.

You can mix sand with paint, and paint that on the plywood for better grip. Or you can also make wheat paste mixed with sand, that you plaster onto the plywood. The paint will be very sandy, so it will be hard to use with a brush, you can just smear it on by hand.
Prepping pallets
Getting the pallets ready, filling in the spaces with used fence boards. Used a nail gun for the support, and used a Brad nailer for the fence boards. One down 10 to go.

Iโ€™m really excited to see what you are going to make! The oven will be a great project to do with the kids. I hope everybody gets their hands dirty! Really looking forward to your progress

Yes, there is going to be the earthen plaster (clay and sand) covering the pallets, both inside and outside, so you have to fill in all the gaps to plaster the Earth mixture on top of the pallets. If the gaps are more than 2 inches, then it will be challenging to plaster the pallets.
