The Realm of Urath (Weekly group)
So, this group has been playing together for a while. Running the Pathfinder 2E Abomination Vaults AP. Female - Dwarf Fighter Male – Goblin rogue Male – Poppet Oracle Male – Minotaur Cleric NPC – Nephilm/Hollowborn Magus NPC – Human rogue The poppet answered the call of another Oracle to the town of Otari where he met with others and was told a little about the town and their concerns with this old dead sorcerer’s lighthouse in the swamp. As those heroes said they would check it out. The first thing they found was small tribe of mifits called the Mudlicker’s. Learning that the Mudlicker’s had been forced out from their home in the levels below. This was news to the heroes because no one knew that Belcorra had levels below the ground level of the lighthouse complex. Teaming with the tribe the heroes started down in the levels below. It was rough go and they encounter all kinds of horrors and they learned more about Belcorra. Sadly, in her library run by ghouls the party faced overwhelming odds and all but two of them survived. The Poppet and one other hero who was too scared to go back. The poppet and the town Oracle gathered a new group to head deeper in the vault. Along the way they saved the mayor’s child, freed a mummy, stopped a contract on one of the town founder’s great great great grand child’s soul. Killed a ton of demons, put down some of Belcorra’s commanders and killed two prize hydras and selling the bodies to the town. Now hundreds feet below the surface. They have the children of Belcorra and allies against her. This has also brought the attention of Belcorra herself. The first time she gave a warring and a taste of her power. After they killed two of her spies. She appeared and bloodied them and told they to return her book and leave. They made with their new allies and took out two more spies. But during the fight the magus had a spell go wrong taking him to his knees. As the others finished the spies off. Suddenly Belcorra appeared along with some of her children. “Tonight, one of you will die!” as she attacked. The party fought holding their own but some of them being bloodied. The battle end as Belcorra shoved her ghost hand into the chest of the magus and crushed his chest. As he fell the Minotaur reacted headbutting her. As she faded out through the floor she whispered to the Minotaur, “I took one of you tonight” The party looked around to see the magus laying there. (and GM smiled see you all in a week)

Me again looking for campaign advice!
Working on developing my first campaign. Looking for general advice on how to tie it all together, have appreciate the advice I have received so far but I feel like I needed to make some sort of general plot concept to start to look into those resources more. This is long so no need to read or reply but if you have the time and interest I appreciate it! I mostly want to know if my general plot actually makes sense in some way outside my own mind! Started with Dragons of Stormwreck Isle DnD starter set with the idea of having a time portal appear at the end. PC’s include Paladin Aasimar-goal is to find his grandfather (or more likely information) who was allegedly carried away from the island by a dragon a long time ago Tabaxi Rogue-No clear goal yet but following the will of Bast, ((ancient Egyptian goddess of home, domesticity, fertility, childbirth, and protection)) was suggested here to help her find a powerful form of catnip Sword-wielding human Wizard-being chased by a Wizards guild because they don’t like him pursuing training in sword fighting etc. Guild is called The Trust of the Song Warlock with a patron called the Deity Moander, which I’m just learning is an actual deity in DnD materials. Warlock wants to find some dirt on his patron so he can no longer be manipulated by him. How can you find dirt on a deity? Or am I missing something? Can they just kill him in a future time period? Sorcerer-occassionally when he rolls on the wild magic table he gets pulled to the elemental plane, so he would like some type of power to stop doing this. and/or maybe learn additional wizard magic more easily. The idea is they have just defeated a dragon (in a clifftop observatory) that wanted to perform a magic ritual during a celestial event, they have gotten rumors of some type of time portal potentially opening up during this event. So the next scene would be they’re in the observatory with the dead dragon, and they see the celestial event cause the observatory and telescope to glow and they see someone appear holding a large staff. This is a wizard human named Ebeneezer holding a time staff (I found online has certain stats etc.)

What if another group was a different timeline that were dinosaur mutants. That is after the same magic. Then a crazy scene could be a chase between the dinosaurs and players, 😜 😜 to the T-Rex scene from Jurassic Park.
PBP?!?
Something that has always been a part struggle as I get older is finding a group. Not just a one shot. But a real campaign group. With my schedule and living on the West Coast. And to be honest I am use to a gaming on every other Saturday. I know that might be old school. But beside when I was in grade school for a sleepover. I never played during a week. For my mind set weekdays is for school and sleep and some TV hehe. When Civid happen Before then I never thought of playing during the weekdays. And boy did I do a lot of gaming during that time. But now we are back to a similar normal life. So my weekdays is too busy or too tired to even think of gaming. So besides solo gaming I have tried. But the thrill of a group it is ok. So I have thought about play by post. But my experience with playing what will is beyond zero. I got some serious questions. How does combat and a social reaction work. I have a hard time seeing how that could work well. I feel like I want it to work but I have a hard time seeing how it works. Help me I want this to work.

I agree with everything Doug said. I found it was also easy to pivot things too. I had a player in my long game who thought skills like body building was funny so he started posting wanting to do test of strength with players and npcs. That led to me doing a whole adventure around the town they worked for doing a big festival with other towns joining in and it led to a tournament with players competing in. Also I like the ability to quickly add links to maps, pictures and the like to build out what the players see helps a lot.

@Ty Prunty it just depends on the players and the gm. When I was running I worked overnight as did one of players and we would set stuff up. Then the other players would post during the day and then I would check when I was on break at work. We would go some weeks between players and myself we might have 70 to 80 posts between Monday and Friday. But I am in a game now that is moving a lot slower. Honestly I only check the game thread every few days. Much different than the first game I played in where I would check the game thread three or four times a day.
Game Prep Notes
I would love to see examples of how you prepare notes to be useful for you while running the game. How can notes support proactive gameplay? As an example, here are notes I have thinking Twilight (a cleric) might go back to the clinic where she used to work, some reminders of goals, npcs, ...

@Eric Person so sorry. Yes, the cards were for the players. It was a good way to introduce npcs and on one player’s card I gave them info I had forgot to pass along. What I am curious about is if they share everything with the others or hold some stuff back for themselves.

@Eric Person I haven’t looked at proactive play book yet. I have a new notebook that I write brainstorming notes in for the world building that my groups have been doing. When it comes to the AP books I have been running from. I make notes on index cards and leave them as bookmarks where they happened in the AP. That helps me. I like to write stuff done. Mainly because I don’t have a home computer. I have my phone and recently I got a laptop from work.
Gaming system question
I know Dnd 5.5e is not popular with a lot of folks, just wondering why. Also curious what systems are your favorites and why? I'm in my first year of ttrpg-ing and don't feel I can take on learning a new system yet but I'm just wondering in this group what factors influence your likes and dislikes about various systems. I have played some independent systems at conventions and enjoyed them, and I do like the combat mechanics of Pathfinder, but Dnd is really big where I live and I already have a lot of the physical materials so I'm pretty invested in it for awhile. Open to any thoughts though, thanks!

Ok so DnD was the first game I played a long time ago. But what are my favorites. I run Pathfinder 2e do I have issues with it sure. But, I do like all the choices and heck I have 14 players between 3 games and no one is playing the same thing. I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rpg. It was the first game I learned to gm. Heroes Unlimited is my favorite superhero game. It and TMNT rules are the same so I have very good understanding of them. Deadlands 1e I loved and the poker hands for combat was so good. Cyberpunk and would love to play with the new stuff. Again I have 1st rules in the black box. So I feel I need to update. I got black powder and brimstone because I liked the art in the book. But it’s rules light and very old school role playing.
