Broker Carrier Tension Post
@Ed Burns shared great comment today on ideal freight market. We may not ever see the ideal market again until we can resolve the tensions between carriers and brokers. Understand Fraud and week market are driving most of the tensions. This network on SKOOL may all be professional and working to collaborate, we need to drive the message through all carriers & brokers. I have been engaging with OOIDA to assist with the tensions. They represent over 100,000 O/O in the USA alone. All of you can make a difference by valuing each other, all the brokers here KNOW, if you bought it a truck brought it. Be the difference all, the industry will benefit and all of us on this network. Believe this may be a TED talk, not really sure what a TED talk is? If I am wrong trust the team here will set me straight. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/bill-robinson-00476a2_supplyanddemand-carriers-brokers-activity-7118626087340822528-aEbG?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

As a broker I would always hear how carriers complained about brokers not giving the drivers the "real" rate, etc. Now being on the carrier side, I'm realizing (especially in the expedited Sprinter van market), it boils down to a lack of understanding. The things I'm hearing from drivers just show they don't understand what a broker is or what they do. I try to inform them whenever I can, but most of them don't want to listen, unfortunately.
Carrier Broker Authority
Heard one of the Validation platforms tell me they were going to Red Flag all carriers who also have a brokerage out of the same location as their carrier. Why? The FMCSA allows a carrier to apply for brokerage authority. You can have a DOT number and have 2 separate MC numbers one for the brokerage and one for the carrier. So the setup is legal and legit. I happen to have both separate. I’m old school got my authorities before they allowed the combination. I have my brokerage with DOT number and MC And my carrier with its own DOT and MC. But why the idea that if they operate together out of the same location than it’s a high risk double brokerage issue and should be red flagged in their system?

My authority is currently Broker/Carrier - I was just letting that ride out until my surety bond expires in a couple of months, then I will deactivate my broker authority and retain just Carrier. In my FMCSA profile it shows both authorities as active and owning only one vehicle. I'm finding out that is apparently a red flag for a lot of brokers as they consider it a potential double-broker situation, so they won't work with me.

@Steven Tittle I think the issues arise whenever you take out the human factor.
Advice needed....
I provided 3PL services for a major freight forwarder for 20 years, but it was very niche and I worked with just a couple of departments. Now that I've moved into driving a cargo van, I was lucky enough to keep some business from that forwarder and the departments I worked with. The one department I've never worked with was their Domestic Dept, which, obviously would be great for me in my new role. Since the forwarder is very large, my contacts don't overlap with the people in Domestic, so they can't really help with introductions. I'm just looking for some advice on how to get my foot in the door - right now, that department completely ignores my emails / phone calls, including the Dept manager. Unfortunately, it's not the type of company where I can just show up with donuts to say hi. Any suggestions?
Eclipse
Message from Customer: "Can you please provide any specific plans you have for the Eclipse? Will this event interfere with your transportation process?" This is a first for me. Any help would be appreciated.

My niece lives in Indy and she said they are expecting it to be a madhouse. The hotels are all booked and they're preparing for massive traffic jams
Slow Pay for Fast Deliveries
@Michael DeMarco touched on this in a post in here a while back on a client he had that went bankrupt. I want to expand in here on broker carrier contracts as they relate to payment. We have a few clients on the carrier side who are larger brokerages. Why is it that they pay slower than the smaller guys? Are they entitled? Opinion: I signed your broker carrier agreement where you asked for NET 30. I gave you the NET 30. We have invoices open now from before XMAS of last year. My accounting department told you 3 weeks ago payment must be made on these past due invoices or your items scheduled for delivery by us will not be delivered. Well that time came, we did not get payment. We did not perform the deliveries! Now the broker is pissed at us. We did not provide delivery of scheduled appointment and are in breach of contract! Wait a minute you the broker breached the contract over a month ago! Your contract says payment terms NET 30. It’s 70 days later and no payment. That’s breach of contract! Hello. As a carrier we feel we are very accommodating to our broker “partners” Is it really a “partnership” when the broker doesn’t care to pay you on time? Should we have delivered their shipments or are we right to hold them accountable?
