My son had a rough day at school today (Bear with me, this will go somewhere). During pick up, his teacher has a list of things that derailed his day from not only being effective but in turn also affected the other students around him. I try hard not to label things as good or bad but objectively look at the situation and find a solution for these things (it can be hard at times). Mind you, he is in 5th grade, and only a 10 year old boy. I don't subscribe to the "boys will be boys" mentality. I do teach my kids to be free thinkers. I've also tried to get them an understanding of what discipline is, what focus means, how to be determined. That's all minor detail. Regardless, this is not the first or 2nd time we have discussed specifics around intentionality. I'm not here to debate over school and their methods or falling in line. None of that. I'm relating this simply to the act of what we decide on daily. Jumping to the end of the conversation without writing an entire novel, it all came back to one thing. Choices. We can choose to or not to do everything (almost quite literally) in life. There are very few things we don't have a choice in; I'll spare the details though. So the conversation leads to discipline over motivation, and we've all heard it a 1,000 times over the years I'm sure. But how often do we stick to it? How often do we choose to let the 10 year old boy inside of us win? It doesn't matter what you feel like doing sometimes, we have to do "it" anyway. Obvious things like bills, necessities to live, etc. The lesson here, is the more intentionally we show up in life, the more we improve. The more opportunities we are able to create. The freedom, the reliance, the fact that you know regardless of what you're staring down, you'll do it anyway and come out better for it. I think about this with starting this Skool community. It would be so easy to just not show up until I "feel like it" or "want to" but that would not serve the purpose we had when creating it. Staying disciplined will create the win. It will help our community win. It will help make sure everything delivered is so valuable and we will know that everything was intentional and was poured into with direction and reason.
