Yesterday I stopped with a friend at my favorite bakery to buy some cinnamon rolls. Bill came to $17.80. I gave her a $20 and dropped the change into the tip jar. When we left my friend asked me why I tipped the girl who served us as she was just doing her job. I explained I tip workers like her because she does her job, is polite and competent and can appreciate being acknowledged for doing a good job. He disagreed. Do you guys tip workers at places where the server simply pours a coffee and gets you a donut for example? It seems like every establishment has a tip jar and most employees seem to be young people who can always use some extra money. What are your thoughts?
