Focus for the week (mount escape)
Find yourself mounted. Don’t make it obvious that you want to work from the mount. Just let your guard down a little. Then explore that position without any great need to get out. But don’t lay there and be passive either. Feel your way around and try to move in many different ways and analyze the problems that stop you. Be curious and scientific, try lots of stuff, don’t use strength or speed, stay relaxed. Do this with someone who isn’t a meathead at first. But ultimately do it on the meathead too. When the time comes that you need more challenge.

The best is when you submit them from bottom mount 😂.
Q and A question
How do you like to pass the open guard when someone has the collar sleeve grip and has foot in the hip and other foot in biceps. With lots of tension ?

@Alexis de Bretagne I played round with this today. Learning how to get that second hook seems to be key. Found that can create a wedge two different ways. Will send you a video of it to explain. The findings. Created a modified version that really like as well.

Great details. Like how use ur body to pull them in and create the connection. Great and and an options. Curious @James Driskill how do you apply this on a no gi variation ? Do you just control behind the elbows ?

@Alexis de Bretagne he is good one to be a fan of.
Focus for the week (teach)
This week, if you have a move in which you are confident and adept, teach it to a friend. Help them learn the move against the most common reaction you have gotten. You will find that teaching will deepen your understanding. It will highlight the pieces you are less familiar with. When I was a newer teacher at Rickson’s school in LA, the what if questions made me nervous because they could sometimes stump me. I would go find Rickson or another professor there and dive deep. Embrace the what ifs. These days I get bored of there aren’t any what ifs. 😜

Teaching will improve your Jiu Jitsu tremendously. Some things that have learned is people either learn by seeing , hearing , or feeling. It is usually not one or the other but a combo of all three. Many times I feel instructors don’t break down the move into parts and lots of time the details are lost this way. I try to keep one or two steps and build from there. Share the details as it is those that cause the move to work. Keep your explanation to a max of 3 min but aim for 1:30-2 min. Like @James Driskill said invite the what if questions. Students are not questioning your technique rather coming from a place of curiosity. Most importantly have fun.

Awesome session. The headlock escape at the end is 💰. Will be adding that one into the arsenal for sure.
