On the topic of Exercise 2 I think you have a good point but also missing a lot when it comes to wearable tech. A two month trial on almost any wearable is barely enough to properly calibrate, it took a closer to 3 on my whoop. I’ve also logged a green recovery after bad sleep before because the whoop measures things I wouldn’t measure every morning and sleep performance is only 20-25% of the algorithm. That is beside the point I really want to make. Although this is a overlooked feature in whoop, the Journal feature is what makes Whoop the best wearable. Oura Ring, Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit and Helio strap all lack the journal feature. The journal will let you build the “Sleep Tracker” David made into the app and find out what affects you the most. I discovered that on days I have higher strain and earlier then normal mornings, that coffee in the middle of the day has a positive impact on my next day recovery while still giving the necessary caffeine for the long day. Here is the thing about wearables, science, or any other form of data production, you have to ask why did you get those results, what factor could change the results and what do good results look like. Example, if a thermometer says the outside temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit, what does it mean? You don’t know if that is cold or hot but just looking at it, you need to know the average temperature for that season, the altitude, the humidity, wind speed, what type of cloths you are wearing, how much body fat do you have and what health factors can effect your sense of temperature. 50 degrees in the Bahamas is frigid, while 50 degrees in the arctic is a hot sunny day. I do believe that the tech can take away from people listening to their body, but surprisingly most people don’t listen to their body anyway. I have 2 adults in their 70s who have talked to me about their Gamins data(which they bought to track sleep) and when I start asking questions about how they actually feel they had no idea what their body was saying. One of them thought that they had a sleep problem, they logged amazing sleep and Garmin said it was good recovery. They said that the Garmin lied t was stated they felt like they had no energy since seeing the Garmin results, which they checked a few hours after waking up. I started asking more questions like the “Sleep Tracker” turns out they weren’t managing their diabetes right with an 19 hour fast and caused low energy. Being able to have a measurement of your respiratory rate, blood oxygen, RHR, HRV and Skin temperature is hugely useful if you properly apply the information, and part of applying the information is asking your body how it feels.
