How not to Contact People on Linkedin
In this forum there is so much valuable info about how to do things right on LinkedIn. I just want to put a counter example, of how bad it is out there. I get this kind of message 3x a day. Comments below, reflecting my first thought when I read the sentence. --------------------- Hi Gert, I hope youโ€™re doing wonderfully! Itโ€™s a pleasure to connect with you! @Gert Villemos I did the same in the beginning, and being happy to see my numbers grow. Now I am very picky and I do not accept any connect requests from any consultants who promise me more leads via LinkedIn or want to coach me. Plus the double bell/nobell setting helps as well.
What Actually Works on LinkedIn: NEW Insights (And a Few Surprises)
Richard van der Blom posted this super insightful document today. Hereโ€™s what actually works (and fails, hard) on LinkedIn this year, with some brutal data to back it up. - Video: The algorithm loves vertical, short, snackable videos. Quick wins big: great reach, top engagement, and yesโ€”these work better than horizontal. - Polls: Totally underrated, they can double or triple your reach. Fantastic for starting conversations, and perfect for multi-part series. - Documents/Carousels: Absolute weapon for sharing ideas. 8โ€“12 slides is the sweet spot, but hereโ€™s the secret: your first slide is everything. Nail it, or expect zero interactions. - Text + Image: The workhorseโ€”almost 60% of all posts. Infographics are especially hot right now. If youโ€™ve got a story, add a visual. - Text Only: Tricky. They only work if youโ€™re a great writer. Short posts (less than 100 words) don't work at allโ€”fact. - External Links: Donโ€™t stick external links in the commentsโ€”itโ€™s an old myth. You want reach? Leave links out. You want clicks? Link goes in the post. What to Avoid (Unless You Like Being Ignored) - Dropping raw links in comments (no, itโ€™s not a hack, itโ€™s a reach killer) - Long posts with no clear hook (instant skip) - Slideshows with a weak first slide (people bounce in seconds) - Horizontal, TV-style video (LinkedIn: not TikTok, but not TV, either!)

@Adam Egger what is a "raw link"?

My curveball that is slowing down my business is actually more than 1 week old, and I would call it "ultimate decision fatigue". This is how the story went: In Q3/2024 I went part-time to give myself time to develop my business, I reduced my responsibilities in my corporate job and stepped down from my leadership role (for which a colleague willingly applied and was accepted by management). Around 6 weeks into the assignment, he dropped the ball and the whole lead responsibility landed again with me... October 2024 was the most intense and least paid month of last year, and yet I managed to deliver a keynote on change management and a LinkedIn Live session with someone I met on that platform. Then in Q4/2024 my business partner said they must take a break due to other priorities in private life. And I don't think I am a solopreneur at heart, rather a team-player, so that was a blow. But in Q1/2025 after the winter-break I decided to try on my own - and so I did. Back on LinkedIn, developing product ideas, validating them with ICP, messaging, posting, networking... And then... An opportunity of an entirely different kind came my way - and we made a big investment with my husband (and we're happy about it!). Since 3 months it's filling up our free-time as well now, into the Q2/2025, with all kinds of administrative and physical tasks or decisions we never took in our lives. Meanwhile, I was also asked to take the lead of an Agilist Team in a SECOND corporate project due to a heated situation with the customer (and the project is strategic) ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. To manage that, I reorganized my old, well-established and trusted team in a quite innovative way, giving them much more responsibility and freedom than ever. I convinced management to let me try this approach no one heard before in a scaled agile setting. I had doubts, but that was my only option to take the leap and trust my team will carry it (spoiler: works like a charm!). It freed up my bandwidth a bit, I had time to think. And actually, I am very proud of that re-org and of the participative way I executed it. Went in like butter, no resistance whatsoever.
Bring Friends to Simply Good Business (and Get Rewarded)
Hey everyone, I've noticed most people in our community come from personal recommendations. So I wanted to make it worthwhile when you invite someone who's a good fit. Here's how it works: When you bring someone into our Simply Good Business community, you'll receive 40% (!) of their membership fee every month they remain part of our group. That's not a one-time bonus or small percentageโ€”it's a substantial, ongoing "thank you" for helping our community grow with the right people. For context, with our current $49 monthly membership, that means about $20 comes back to you each month for every person you refer, for as long as they stay. Why so much? Because the right people matter more than just growing numbers. Your friends who share our values make this community better for everyone. No complicated systems or codes to remember. Just click on the "Invite People" button (see below) and send your friends the invite link you get there. Of course, the best part is having more great people in our conversations who truly get what we're building here. Know someone who'd love what we're doing? I'd be happy to welcome them through you. Adam
