What Actually Works on LinkedIn: NEW Insights (And a Few Surprises)
Richard van der Blom posted this super insightful document today. Here’s what actually works (and fails, hard) on LinkedIn this year, with some brutal data to back it up. - Video: The algorithm loves vertical, short, snackable videos. Quick wins big: great reach, top engagement, and yes—these work better than horizontal. - Polls: Totally underrated, they can double or triple your reach. Fantastic for starting conversations, and perfect for multi-part series. - Documents/Carousels: Absolute weapon for sharing ideas. 8–12 slides is the sweet spot, but here’s the secret: your first slide is everything. Nail it, or expect zero interactions. - Text + Image: The workhorse—almost 60% of all posts. Infographics are especially hot right now. If you’ve got a story, add a visual. - Text Only: Tricky. They only work if you’re a great writer. Short posts (less than 100 words) don't work at all—fact. - External Links: Don’t stick external links in the comments—it’s an old myth. You want reach? Leave links out. You want clicks? Link goes in the post. What to Avoid (Unless You Like Being Ignored) - Dropping raw links in comments (no, it’s not a hack, it’s a reach killer) - Long posts with no clear hook (instant skip) - Slideshows with a weak first slide (people bounce in seconds) - Horizontal, TV-style video (LinkedIn: not TikTok, but not TV, either!)
