Introduction
Hey guys! It’s good to be part of this community. I’m a retired firefighter from the Central Valley of California. Amazingly by the grace of God I’ve been blessed with a patient loving and tenacious wife who has stood by me for 36 years. I have 3 grown children and just became a grandfather in September. Looking forward to getting to know you all better.

Hey Rob, welcome to the team 🙌
Thoughts?
In a group call this morning we discussed ongoing employee “pizza parties” and how the employees still complain about them. It got me thinking of this saying “Pizza parties are for recognizing weak leaders”. Thoughts?

“Things” will never replace connections and relationships, which is what I feel most leaders try to do with parties or gifts. While they can be nice, it won’t be received as anything more than a trinket or a free piece of bad food if the connection is missing in the first place.

Occupation vs vocation
Heard something today that got me thinking. What’s the difference between occupation and vocation for you? Vocation used to mean so much more. It was a time honored tradition of skills passed down from generation to generation. It was time an apprentice spent with a master and was ultimately a calling. Occupation by the root definition is something that occupies your time. Far less skill and far less motivation or calling is required for an occupation. So how do you feed your vocation when it’s no longer your occupation?

I would say your Vocation is more than only a "hands on" skill or something that is done which resembles work. The "calling" aspect of this definition makes me look at this as how one carries themselves and influences those around them for the better. So regardless of what your "occupation" may be, your calling is to use your skillset no matter your title, location, or situation where you currently are. Your occupation (environment) may change, but your vocation (calling) should be with you constantly and guide how you operate.

Our Deepest Fear
I’m sure some have read this, some have not, but I thought I’d share this with everyone today. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our LIGHT, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God! Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightening about shrinking So that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to manifest The glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.”
