Introduction
Hello All! I'm Matt, started this journey by learning to gm for my sons when 5E first came out. Currently working on putting together my own system, not because it's needed, just because it's fun. Along side that I have a group of friends I gm for every so often. Looking forward to learning and sharing as much as I can.

@James Willetts wish I could tell you, but it's really just a mix of a bunch of concepts and mechanics I've watched various YouTube creators review, which I know are sourced from some classics and new releases, but I couldn't name them.

@Jonah Fishel Still mainly dnd. Maybe 10+ years since I started, but the games are so sporadic I still feel inexperienced overall. Trying to get a steady game going, heres hoping everyone can stay committed.
[Worldbuilding Help] Neutraldark world consumed by a magical sea
Hey everyone! I'm new into worldbuilding and i’ve been building a neutraldark fantasy setting called Lumen, and I’d love some feedback and ideas. The world is slowly being consumed by the Sea of Ah’vesque (an Old God, that was, a mist-filled ocean of raw magic and chaos. Those who fall into it are twisted into monsters (though the public doesn’t know this). Every nation is protected by a mysterious Tree that slows down the Sea. No one knows who planted it, or how it ended up there. There are plenty of territorial fights because of this, though right now the nation is at "Peace". Magic only exists through glyphs, drawn with special ink made from the Sea’s water. They must be precise or else cause unpredictable effects. The alternative to glyphs are Oaths, binding a person to a soul-bearing artifact. Like shikais and bankais in Bleach. Maevandor (the nation players are going to start) is ruled by an authoritarian regime called the High Authority, which secretly disposes of unwanted people by throwing them into the Sea to create (un)controllable monsters. They also are actively trying to investigate about "life magic" and if there's a way to cheat death with magic. Other factions include the Union of Tectoforge (UTAF), an industrial mining syndicate that the Authority has contracted. There is more lore than this but this is the "basics". I’m trying to flesh out: How daily life looks in a world where the Sea is always looming closer and theres plenty of militar people around. More factions that feel natural in this setting. How to make a interesting plot with all this for my players. Any ideas, inspirations, or critique are welcome! (sorry for bad grammar)

Sounds like the sea/god is a major character within the world. Why is it expanding/rising? Is it impending doom or a slow, barely noticeable progression? Can it be slowed, stopped, or even reversed? Is it a global occurrence, or are only certain lands being threatened. Can it be reasoned with? Are floating vessels able to exist on it without adverse effects, or perhaps different effects? I could see factions dedicated to trying to slow or stop the spread, cults built around trying to increase it, navies or floating cities trying to exist in a new world with new rules. Player interaction could come in with a faction or cause they align with. Perhaps they negotiate with the god to save a character's home village. Maybe get recruited into or defending against a new Navy raiding costal lands to support and build a floating city. Or maybe that cult has gained a little too much publicity and the characters are asked to investigate a way to reduce their influence in order to slow or stop the rising tide.
