[Worldbuilding Help] Neutraldark world consumed by a magical sea
Hey everyone! I'm new into worldbuilding and i’ve been building a neutraldark fantasy setting called Lumen, and I’d love some feedback and ideas. The world is slowly being consumed by the Sea of Ah’vesque (an Old God, that was, a mist-filled ocean of raw magic and chaos. Those who fall into it are twisted into monsters (though the public doesn’t know this). Every nation is protected by a mysterious Tree that slows down the Sea. No one knows who planted it, or how it ended up there. There are plenty of territorial fights because of this, though right now the nation is at "Peace". Magic only exists through glyphs, drawn with special ink made from the Sea’s water. They must be precise or else cause unpredictable effects. The alternative to glyphs are Oaths, binding a person to a soul-bearing artifact. Like shikais and bankais in Bleach. Maevandor (the nation players are going to start) is ruled by an authoritarian regime called the High Authority, which secretly disposes of unwanted people by throwing them into the Sea to create (un)controllable monsters. They also are actively trying to investigate about "life magic" and if there's a way to cheat death with magic. Other factions include the Union of Tectoforge (UTAF), an industrial mining syndicate that the Authority has contracted. There is more lore than this but this is the "basics". I’m trying to flesh out: How daily life looks in a world where the Sea is always looming closer and theres plenty of militar people around. More factions that feel natural in this setting. How to make a interesting plot with all this for my players. Any ideas, inspirations, or critique are welcome! (sorry for bad grammar)
