Outdoor Practice isn't Translating to Indoor Progress
So I've been practicing outdoors on tennis courts and empty parking lots 2-3 times a week for months now. I was happy with how much progress I was making and how comfortable I felt on my skates. Unfortunately, when I show up to the rink to put it all to the test I feel completely out of my element! The rink is so much smoother that I cant count on the muscle memory Ive built on pavement. I'm better than if I didnt practice at all, but much better outdoors. Have yall experienced this? How do you bridge the gap? I cant spend 60 dollars a week paying to practice at the rink exclusively.

@Isabel Athina Mitzen I am on 98a wheels that come stick with riedell 111s. I dont think they're considered hybrid. I am focused on JB skating which typically uses 98a or harder. Do you think it would be best to switch wheels when on different surfaces to get the friction approximately the same?

@Isabel Athina Mitzen I hear what you're saying. I will try to get out on the rink more often. Thank you!

I would start by looking at all the parks in your area. Any outdoor raquet sport or basketball facilities are usually ideal for skating. Below that in quality are parking lots. Find ones that are repaved often and used minimally. Wealthy churches and elementary schools are good bets. Where in Florida are you? I also live there and love to skate.
Any tips on making skates more comfy?
I just got my first pair of skates (Riedell Boosts) and in just an hour of skating my right inner ankle is rubbed raw! I tried adjusting the laces and even with them fully undone it didnt seem to help much. The stiffness on the boot is nothing like the floppy rentals that Ive grown accustomed to. Any advice would be great!
Let’s talk skates! Current set vs. dream skates
1. What are you rolling on these days? 2. If you could upgrade, what would you choose (within reason)? 3. Extra credit: if you could have any skates, what would it be? **Bonus points if you post pics! I’ll put my answers in the comments section…And, GO!

Still on rentals! Looking to get Riedell 111's soon. Any other suggestions on beginner rhythm skates?
