💥 StF Challenge 🎯 Filling my first group mentorship program
🎯 My Goal: To usher in the perfect number of women (as decided by forces greater than I) into my new mentorship program by posting on social media once per day, sending 5 personalized connection call requests every weekday, and doing 8 connection calls each week ✨ My Intention for September: My intention is to usher women into my new program while detaching from the idea of how many women “need” to be in this group to make it “successful.” I also intend to work through the imposter syndrome that’s coming up as I step into this new endeavor. ⏩ Next Step: Create a list of women to reach out to and a lineup of content to post this week 🤝 My Commitment: "I, Maggie Shanks, commit to posting my progress on the 30-day Scattered to Focused challenge as many days of September as my schedule and availability allows. I commit to sticking to it even if I miss a day here or there, and not to let that discourage me from picking myself up and continuing on! I also commit to helping create a space of focus, camaraderie, and accountability for everyone in the Focus Founders community by commenting on their posts and cheering them on. Let's get after it, together!!!!!"

What’s the ONE habit you swear by?
For me, it’s having a nighttime routine (I call it a ritual, because my brain likes that word better than routine). It’s simple: Review your day, reflect on your wins, and plan tomorrow. If I’m in a rush, it takes no more than 3 minutes. (Though I usually like to spend 15.) This is the ONE habit that’s made the biggest difference in my life - by far. When I think back to the times I was most successful and at my happiest, it’s when I had this daily ritual. Bonus points for a morning ritual as well, but the evening is the most important if you can only do one. Over to you—what’s the ONE thing that’s made the biggest positive impact in your life?

For me, it’s morning meditation. I built it into my morning ritual using the concept of “habit stacking” so that it would become an unconscious habit. After a couple years it has turned into a non-negotiable for my day. For me, it’s like going to the gym. It’s the small daily habit that accumulates over time to add value to my life. Mindfulness has created a ripple effect in my life- I am less reactive, more compassionate, able to focus better, I’m a better listener and a better facilitator because of it. This one thing has changed my entire life! And I believe in the power of a daily meditation practice so much that it has become a non-negotiable for anyone who chooses to work closely with me in my mentorship program.
A crazy idea... who's in?
I am a huge fan of getting uncomfortable. Why? Because the more discomfort you (intentionally) endure, the more you grow your comfort zone. Want to get stronger? Push through uncomfortable workouts. Terrified of public speaking but want to become a speaker? Take to the stage and get uncomfortable. Want a deeper, more meaningful relationship but scared to be vulnerable? Practice opening up. I learned just how true this is in 2023 when I went to a leadership bootcamp in Namibia (that's in Africa, in case you didn't know). I went by myself, without knowing anyone. I went with a group of men—and before this was recovering from a masculine wound. I didn't do well befriending men in my past. Especially the kind of men a leadership bootcamp on the backs of motorcycles in Africa attracted. On that trip, I faced massive amounts of discomfort: Working out in full motorcycle attire in the desert heat. Sitting in the ocean, getting blasted in the face by waves repeatedly at 5 AM before the sun came up in 50 degree weather. Putting a tourniquet on someone—and having one put on me. It very much felt like a trip where I left a boy, and came back a man. I saw what I was capable of. So here's my idea... Let's have a Focus Founders "Day of Discomfort" where we all get really uncomfortable—together—for an entire day. We work out outside in the heat. We sit and work together and hold each other accountable to getting more done in a day than we have in weeks, not allowing each other to be distracted. We get in a cold plunge. We get vulnerable and bare our souls in authentic relating. And we cap it off with a dip in Barton Springs and a giant dinner in celebration. Who's in?
