Hitting thoughts 💭
1) Were you on time? 2) Did you swing at a good pitch? 3) Did you keep your direction? If you answered no to any of these questions, it’s not a swing issue.. The players who you see consistently performing well learned how to manage the physical(swing), mental(approach/mindset), and emotional(managing expectations).

I think even just the thought of swinging in "a zone". Too many kids I see are trying to figure out ball/strike, FB/off speed and then swing/no. Obviously the higher you go and the harder people throw, the tougher it gets to process all of that. I remember (while I was living in Toronto) the year Jose Bautista broke out and Cito Gaston had come back to the Jays as manager. Cito told "him FB in. That's your only decision until you get to 2 strikes. Whether it's first pitch of 10th pitch, if it's FB in, hit it out of the park". That made so much sense to me and is something I've told young hitters here in Aus ever since.

⚡️ To all our Former Pros
I'm going to host a group zoom call this Sunday. Who would like to join? Going to make this a weekly thing going forward (might end up picking a different day/time). Would any pro's like to volunteer to come on once a month and lead a Q&A for our younger players? Looking to give back and make this the best community in all of baseball!

I’ll try and tune in this week depending on time difference. I’m far from an ex-pro player, but I worked in pro sports for almost 10 years, so I have a lot of insights I’d be happy to share with young players if anyone is interested?
❓for Pitchers
Would you like to see pro guys grips for different pitches? Would a video be way better of them talking about they throw each pitch along with the grip?

This would be a great addition to the community. Especially why they throw it that way vs other options and what they’re doing with their hand & fingers during.
Post Impact Deceleration
Nobody had more efficient application of force than the games’greatest third baseman ever Michael Jack Schmidt I learned to box and got to appreciate how to create force in close proximity He looks like a fighter, delivering a vicious right hand Bat never gets behind him, he’s in perfect balance, operates in an EXTREMELY small space What follow through???? Acceleration, “speeding up” is the key The litmus test of how well you accelerate is how well you decelerate The check swing and “full” swing are more similar that they are dissimilar

Great post @Tommy Weber totally with you on the boxing thing. Combat athletes have great ability to create impulse and remain on balance. I've worked with plenty of great athletes that can beat the snot out of a punching bag, but they would get punched in the face by a boxer because after they throw a punch, all their weight is on one foot. The athletic development plan for my own kids is track, gymnastics, combat, dance-then they can learn to throw and catch.
