Cheers Ray, my son plays for 2 teams under 11 GK, based in Chorley Lancashire. I think he would benefit from short vids on the little details of different aspects, catching high, different distribution how and when, goal kicks, positioning a wall, positioning on a corner, getting back up quickly, communication - what kind of things to shout and when. Cheers for setting this up and thanks again for our conversation on my podcast Business Problems Solved. Lee
Learning curve @ u11s
Hey All, my boy Jack plays under 11s for 2 local teams. This season moving to 9v9, with offsides and no retreat has been his biggest learning curve so far. He has had to learn to shout more, communicate better, kick better and play with his feet more, so much so that for one of his teams during training he doesn’t go in goal at all he plays out, this has really helped him. The thing he struggles most with is catching up high with arms above his head. Has anyone else found this?
Mindset
I have a son playing as a keeper in u10’s he has been a keeper since around May last year and I quickly learnt how important mindset was for young keepers. I’m just wondering how other parents help build a great mindset for their young keepers? my son attends J4K sessions weekly and they are fab and have brought his mindset on massively, I try to make it fun and I have counted his saves on the sideline so i can show him he saves far more then he may concede but I really am learning on the sidelines

For my boy what seems to work is not put any pressure on him before the game, we don’t talk about what he should and shouldn’t do (we used too). Now just make it as fun a morning as possible, when we get to game I just say “have fun” then when we get in car after game I ask him for 3 things he did well and 1 he could improve, then we go about our day.
Wrists tape/fingers tape
Hi all, what tapes do you all recommend for wrists and fingers? Currently we use sports tape for my daughter wrists and, old school I know, electrical tape for her fingers. Any others worth a try?

My boy broke his wrist twice in last 13 months both saving shots once in a game once in a mates back garden. He now uses wrist tape, it helps his belief in his wrists again. Also gloves with wrist straps help. He’s not been bothered with his fingers so just have 2.5 inch tape on subscription from Amazon.
Goalkicks
Hi all, the only thing my lad struggles with really is his goal kicks, how can he improve his kicks?

I feel your pain, my boy this year has been caught out with this, the move to 9v9 and no retreat has meant he has been under the spotlight more. He used to always offer his kicks to defenders to take but now he is saying no. Repetition and technique have been key, I get him to take penalties in back garden with same goal kick technique but aim for top bins or crossbar to replicate height and distance, to him it doesn’t feel like he’s practicing goalkicks but he is.
