Off Leash Trail Areas 🐕🐩
Multi user areas can be soooooo tricky … so this was refreshing to see! There is also apparently a sign with dog owner guidelines which is more common. This is in Vancouver Island. Qualicum. Our Community Park off-leash trails are places where people and dogs can enjoy nature together. To keep the trails safe and fun for everyone, follow these simple guidelines: ✅ Expect dogs running, playing, and barking ✅ Announce yourself when passing from behind (“coming up behind”) ✅ Slow down or walk when approaching dogs ✅ Avoid aggressive behaviour toward dogs ✅ Use caution at blind corners Let’s keep our trails safe, respectful, and welcoming for all users—two- and four-legged alike! 💚

🎒 QUICK TIP: DAISY CHAIN LEASH MAGIC! 🐾✨
Ivy is off leash on many of our hikes — sniffing, exploring, enjoying the freedom (earned by her good training). 🌲 But some spots call for a quick safety leash: cliff edges, sudden wildlife, other dogs… or just that “uh-oh, hold up!” moment. Enter my daisy chain collar + long line system. 💡A piece of webbing or cord clips onto her collar and instantly becomes a long line when I need it. One moment she’s roaming free, the next she’s safely on leash — all in seconds. ⏱️ 🔹 Perfect when the terrain is tricky 🔹 Adjustable length for your dog and space 🔹 If you can tie a slipknot or crochet chain, you can make one 🔹 Always ready-to-go 📍YOUR TURN: What leash do you use while out adventuring with your dog? I filmed a short demo — check it out! Have you tried a daisy chain leash? How did it go? 📸🐕

Great just like a croquet hook ( half hitch) around itself
📌 CHECK-IN TIME: WHY ARE YOU HERE? 🧭
Alright, ACE Crew, it’s check-in time! 👀🔭 It’s been a quiet weekend here (I get it—summer’s calling us all! 😎). @Laurie Skinner Copied from her post here: Hello - dog lovers I have an issue currently with my physical ability to take my 11 month old dog(90+lbs)out for hikes. He is a naturally strong puller (parents are used in CaniCross) im headed to Vancouver next week to have my hip and shoulder looked at. Both injuries are debilitating therefore making it tough to even do trail walks. I’m reaching out to any experienced owners with balanced dogs (Harry) is intact & very social. He has a beautiful playful temperament. I am mindful that he runs trails either vigor but has been extremely great checking in - I find using a leash with him very difficult as he constantly pulls ( as what he believes his work- To Pull) My rotator cuff, can not handle much more correcting and I feel like I’m letting him down not going off the property now. I need my hip replaced sooner than later. I’m wondering if there’s anyone interested ( possibly with fenced acreage) that they could have Harry “play “ with their dog Or take him to an open play field or trail I think an introduction is the first goal And I am very open to host dogs in my yard to begin the introductions ( I live in Wildwood) thank you for any considerations !

Here’s my days example - our front gate was not latched properly after one of the construction guys left our property- I was in the barn trying to do my morning feedings. The neighbour calls to me saying ; “Hey, Harry is out !” Seeing that the front gate was now open, where is he? Well turns out he ran to a neighbor‘s house they have a dog that he loves to play with. The neighbours gate was closed, so he continued on running down the road, stopping and sniffing along the way I hobble down as far as I could go and call him. He looks at me, turns his tail and runs into that yard and seconds later pass I say let’s go he bolts out of the person’s yard and run straight for myself full on running, and the neighbours were waiting in the road runs, whipping past us and bolts into the schoolyard of where he continues to run around the field! I let the neighbors know, I will handle it & thank you for telling me - but go ahead and enjoy your walk😉 I decide that I can’t run after him - he knows I’m in the school yard and he’s got no care in the world. I know he needs to run but he’s still so independent and stubborn lately he wants to run and play! ( plus he’s never off the leash on the school grounds) but it’s next to my house - we share a fence line. I sit down on a bench and wait him out. No treats, no calling him just watching him lap the field! I’m exhausted, frustrated and today overwhelmed! Then a few minutes later - Harry saunters up & comes right in next to me - I saw hi! Good boy ( for coming~ FINALLY) but I don’t ever over call him. I slipped his leash over his neck - and we very carefully hobbled home together ! Time for our naps

Thank you Maren. I so appreciate your comment - your input really helps put Harry’s energy into perspective and helps me to know that not everyday similar things happen. I’m thankful for the support. My husband; John has arrived from Savary & is proven to be Harry’s trail buddy ! Already getting out on 2 walks and plays near our home. I’m heading to Vancouver to see the doctor and Harry will be in great hands with John - while I recuperate.
