What is a data-first approach to speaking?
How’s your 2025 shaping up? We’re almost done 1/12th of this year. My #1 big goal: get good at short-form video. TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn. Why? Speakers have a problem: You’re a content creator but you don’t even know it. Old keynotes. Endless podcasts. Webinars. I want to figure out a way to use that effectively. Now, it’s not just repurposing a bunch of random content, but creating video with the goal of testing out new ideas and concepts. That means you’ll be able to know what your audience wants before you go and give a talk. But… that research and learning is consuming about 3 hours a day in research, scripting, recording and editing. I believe in a proof-first approach. I don’t want to share something until I’ve done it myself. Love reading all the posts in here, I’m replying when I can.

Interesting! I love the idea of re-using content to experiment and test. So often, we feel pressured to have it right and perfect before posting to social, but it's a great place to listen and get feedback.
Sharing a speech practice tip
When i practice my speech i need to practice movement. Here ive marked off a 10x14 area in my basement with cones, dividing it into 6 boxes (in my script writing when ill be in box 1,2 etc. i also added some guests - pink lamp, elsa doll to practice eye contact. Hope you find it helpful!

@Anna Thomas I love this!

Networking works! Yesterday I was featured on Raja Vaidya's podcast, it was fascinating to find someone so different from myself who resonates on such similar wavelengths! I will post a link to it when it comes out on YouTube :)

Hey, fellow speakers! What’s your secret for connecting with the crowd? Is it a killer story, a funny quip, or just your charming smile? 😄 Share your best tips or memorable moments!

I like to start with a story and then invite people to connect with each other and share theirs. It works better in smaller in-person groups.
Speaker bios
I'm curious to know more about how you approach speaker bios. I've seen a lot that cite academic credentials, degrees, etc. My entire career has been self taught, supplemented by some post secondary education, but no degree or what I would consider an impressive academic path. Any thoughts? How important is it?
