What’s your number one struggle as a PMU artist?
Mine for years was getting clients and brow mapping. Lip blush and lash line were much easier, but mapping brows consistently was tough. Here’s the good news: once you have a client acquisition strategy, you start getting consistent practice, and you improve way faster than if you wait for random clients to trickle in. You can practice mapping on friends, family, or anyone willing to come in. Even using a latex pad at home works wonders. When I started, I practiced on a mannequin head with removable brow strips and had the tattoo bed in my bedroom—this helped me get positioning, stretching, and procedure flow down perfectly. Once you master mapping (and it can take just 20 minutes), you significantly cut down appointment time. Practice makes perfect—and faster appointments = more clients = more experience.

@Joan Ramos i’ve struggled here before as well and it’s really around my first pass. Sometimes after the first pass when I wipe the brow, there’s no pigment and now the map is gone. 😫

@Joan Ramos it could be a little of both. I sped up my speed on my machine, went a little harder on my pressure, stretched really well and made my needle around 3mm for my client yesterday and noticed a difference with the pigment retention on the first pass. Going to keep doing this for the next few to see if I notice a difference.
For artists with limited content:
If you’re just starting out, focus on getting exposure and building your portfolio. Post in local Facebook groups—mom groups, community pages, or any relevant pages where potential clients might be. Dedicate just 20 minutes to joining a few groups and posting consistently. Have a few pre-written messages ready once they inquire that clearly explain: • The model process • What clients can expect • Pre-care instructions I always ask them to send over a photo so I can choose an ideal model. And always require a depositbefore confirming a booking to ensure commitment. This approach helps you grow your portfolio while keeping your time and energy protected!! Good lighting, flattering angles, and consistent before-and-after shots are key to building a professional profile. People will form an opinion within seconds of checking out your page!! If you want the exact script I post on FB to get models, comment below!

This is great! Thank you! How did you determine if you were charging a model rate or if you didn’t charge? For example, did you do the first 10 people free or just as you preferred?
Playing Catch Up
Hi Isabella. I love your content and I wanted to say thank you for sharing gems! I wanted to reach out to inquire about the lip blushing and powder brow tutorials that you mentioned in the coming soon to September & November months. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing the lives either. Sorry for the questions, trying to catch up.

I am Kearia. I am located in Atlanta Georgia area. I currently offer microblading services for eyebrows, but I would love to learn lip blushing, and other permanent makeup services. I am extremely new as I’ve spent the last 11 years in corporate America and jumping right into permanent make up full-time. I have zero clients. I’ve taken roughly 8 to 10 models and all have been extremely satisfied. But I am struggling to book paying clients.
