What affirmations do you use?
Affirmations are intentional statements we use to help shape our focus, identity, and internal dialogue. They're about reinforcing the mindset we actually want to live from. The most effective affirmations are believable enough to accept, repeated consistently (and internalized over time), emotionally /value connected AND backed by action. :) These were some of the ones I've been leaning on this week: -"I owe it to myself to see how capable I truly am and to live and expand upon my potential" -"I keep promises to myself" -"I will not sleepwalk through a life others would fight for" -"I reject comfort that weakens me and I accept discomfort that strengthens me" -"I don't wait to lose things to appreciate them". Would love to hear some of yours! :) Do you use affirmations or reminders?

@Georgiana D YES! I had thought about ethics in "whatever it takes" and had total trust in myself there, however the work too hard part i had not considered! Learning. ๐Ÿ˜‚
WE ARE MIRRORS
Think of it like this - Light = truth/honesty. Dark = deceit/dishonesty. When you are dishonest with yourself, you create a "shadow" between you and the light (truth/honesty). Be honest with yourself n others. Be a "shadow free" mirror. Let there be nothing but light between us

@Georgiana D you got me fascinated - is it this one? โ€œAbove all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.โ€

@Georgiana D oh yes it is - I searched before I zoomed in on the screenshot. Love it
Embrace the discomfort
Saw this at a place I was visiting today and thought I'd pass it on !! When trying something new, it's probably going to feel uncomfortable! Those are new neural connections being created so there is an actual physical discomfort that's happening. That's normal! Let's embrace the process :-) get aligned and then embrace the discomfort that comes along with the change!

@Georgiana D oh goodness, I've really transformed on this...I don't ever say No to anything that I think is of value to my business or mission these days. Whether it's live video podcasts, Live trainings - I guess the last one was a big corporate presentation (via Zoom as I'm in Aus and they are US). That was an easy YES, even though my audience isn't corporate and my set-up isn't professional. Sadly at the last minute it fell through, however that would have been very new for me. I'll likely get another chance with them (the current administration has been making it much harder for them to hire external speakers apparently).

What would you say to yourself?
We often look to friends, family, internet, other resources to answer questions and problems and situations. Not that these things are wrong or unnecessary. But we often have inside us the answers to some of the things we search for. I did an exercise of just writing to myself and let my inner pilot light show up. I personally was surprised on one hand and yet my words were not new. I had the answer but it hit differently written out to myself. Have you tried this exercise? If so, how often do you repeat the exercise? Also, any tips for my next time?

I'm a huge fan of journaling too. It feels like self coaching. I think your question was framed as what would you say to your present self @Lisa Kilby however I've found what would I say to little me, helpful too. I ran a journaling challenge in December and these were the prompts from Day 10 - Sharing the love and wisdom with little YOUโ€ฆ (pick the ONE that jumps outโ€”or if you have time, explore them all) โ€ข What words of comfort would have helped younger you feel safer or more understood? โ€ข What did younger you fear the most, and what reassurance would you o๏ฌ€er them now? โ€ข What did younger you need to hear about love, belonging, or worth? โ€ข What are three things you wish someone had told you consistently as a child? โ€ข What did younger you need to hear about mistakes, failure, or being imperfect? โ€ข What would you tell younger you about who they would grow into? And now: How can you give yourself today what you needed thenโ€”emotionally, physically, or spiritually?
These 6 โ€œAversion Factorsโ€ Can Quietly Kill Your Progress (even when you care about the goal)
I was listening to Modern Wisdom (E1077 with Chris Bailey) and it highlighted something can be easy to overlook: We spend a lot of time trying to build motivationโ€ฆ Yet not enough time looking at what weโ€™re avoiding. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Aversion is often the real problem. Because even when a goal matters to you โ€” something about it can still feelโ€ฆ off. ๐Ÿ˜ž Chris breaks this into 6 common โ€œaversion factorsโ€ and my goodness they resonated with me! - Boring - Frustrating - Unpleasant - Too far in the future - Unstructured - Meaningless (not aligned with your values) The good news? These arenโ€™t personality flaws โ€” theyโ€™re adjustable levers. Letโ€™s make this practical! 1. Boring ๐Ÿ˜ด If something feels repetitive or dull, you wonโ€™t stick with it โ€” simple as that. This shows up with: - Eating the same meals on repeat - Doing workouts you donโ€™t enjoy - Routines that feel like a chore ๐Ÿ‘‰ Fix: Make the experience better. Try this: - Add variety (new meals, new workouts) - Pair it with something enjoyable (music, podcast, fresh environment) - Add a social element (walk with a friend, group class) You donโ€™t need more discipline โ€” you need less boredom. 2. Frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ซ This is a big one with exercise (and honestly, anything new). It can feel like: - โ€œI donโ€™t know what Iโ€™m doingโ€ - โ€œIโ€™m so far behindโ€ - โ€œThis is harder than I expectedโ€ So even if you want the resultโ€ฆ Your brain associates it with discomfort and avoids it. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Fix: Lower the barrier. Try this: - Start easier than you think you should - Follow a simple plan (remove decision fatigue) - Focus on consistency, not performance - Drop comparison โ€” your starting point is valid The goal isnโ€™t to crush every session. Itโ€™s to make it easy enough to come back tomorrow. 3. Unpleasant ๐Ÿ˜ฌ This one is subtle. Itโ€™s not always โ€œhardโ€โ€ฆ it just doesnโ€™t feel good. Examples: - Meals that arenโ€™t satisfying - Workouts you dread - A routine that feels restrictive ๐Ÿ‘‰ Fix: Improve the experience.
