Breastfeeding Class: What to Expect the First Week + How to Know Baby Is Getting Enough
🚨 Quick reminder for this Sunday If you’re pregnant or planning to breastfeed… this is one of those things you don’t want to “figure out later.” Because what I see all the time is this: Moms come in thinking, “I’ll just learn when the baby gets here…” Then baby is sleepy. Feeding feels confusing. And suddenly it turns into panic. Not because something is wrong… but because no one explained what’s actually normal. So on Sunday, I’m breaking this down for you 👇 🍼 Free Prenatal Breastfeeding Class 🗓 Sunday @ 12 PM EST We’re going to cover: ✔ What really happens in the first 24–48 hours ✔ Why babies get sleepy after that first good latch ✔ How to wake your baby to feed ✔ How to know they’re getting enough ✔ What’s normal vs what needs support This is the stuff that changes everything early on. 👉 If you can, show up live 👉 If not, catch the replay (but don’t skip this) Drop a “I’m in” below so I know who’s coming 💗

Question
I was wondering if there is any tips and tricks on nipple sensitivity? When I have a let down, or wind feels it, when I touch it on accident, it’s so uncomfortable. Any advice?

@Kayleen Wiant Are you having a nipple color changes? Does the nipple burn?

@Kayleen Wiant If you’re having nipple sensitivity with let-down, touch, or even air hitting it—but no color changes or burning pain—this is usually just normal nerve sensitivity from breastfeeding. Those nerves are working overtime right now. A few things that can help: • Keep them covered (pads or soft bra) • Use a little breast milk or nipple balm • Warmth helps more than cold • Gentle massage before feeds can ease let-down It’s uncomfortable, but it does get better as your body adjusts 🤍
Breastfeeding Q&A Replay: Common Questions New Moms Ask
We just wrapped up today’s Breastfeeding Q&A live, and it was such a great conversation. During the session we talked about some of the most common questions new parents have, including: • How to know if your baby is getting enough milk • Why newborns want to feed so often in the early days • What normal milk supply looks like in the first weeks • Why babies are often fussier in the evening • When pumping can be helpful and when it may not be necessary Breastfeeding can bring a lot of questions, especially in the early weeks, and my goal with these lives is to help parents feel more confident and less overwhelmed. If you missed the live, you can watch the replay here. Also, if you are pregnant or preparing for breastfeeding, I’m hosting a Free Prenatal Breastfeeding Class on March 29th at 12 PM EST. In that class we go step-by-step through what happens in the first days after birth so you can feel prepared before your baby arrives. If you’re pregnant, comment “CLASS” and I’ll send you the details. And if you have a breastfeeding question, feel free to post it below — I’m always happy to help.

Breastfeeding Q&A Replay: Common Questions New Moms Ask
Breastfeeding Q&A Tomorrow
I’m going live tomorrow — March 15th at 12 PM EST to answer your breastfeeding questions. After 17 years as a postpartum nurse and lactation coordinator, I know most moms worry about the same things: • Is my baby getting enough milk? • Is my milk supply okay? • Why is my baby fussy every evening? • Pumping vs nursing — am I doing it right? • How often should newborns be feeding? Nothing is too small to ask. 👇 Comment below: How old is your baby and what breastfeeding question do you have right now? I’ll answer as many as I can during the live tomorrow. If you can’t make it live, you can always catch the replay. Karen Gilbert, RN, CLS Postpartum Nurse & Breastfeeding Educator
