On Simplicity
Its Nietzsche so it’s hard to skim but: “A kind of sturdy peasant simplicity, which, however, is possible in all classes and can be encountered only with respect and a smile, believes even today that everything is in good hands, namely in the "hands of God"; and when it maintains this proportion with the same modest certainty as it would that two and two make four, we others certainly refrain from contradicting. Why disturb THIS pure foolishness? Why darken it with our worries about man, people, goal, future? And even if we wanted to do it, we could not. They project their own honorable stupidity and goodness into the heart of things (the old God, deus myops, still lives among them!); we others — we read something else into the heart of things: our own enigmatic nature, our contradictions, our deeper, more painful, more mistrustful wisdom. Simple is wise

ChatGPT explained it to me simply. This passage describes a simple, almost naive mindset found in people across all social classes who unquestioningly believe that everything is in God's hands. They hold this belief with the same unquestionable certainty as basic arithmetic. The speaker suggests that there is no point in challenging this simple faith, as it is harmless and comforting to those who hold it. These people project their own simple-minded goodness onto the universe, imagining God as similarly simple and benevolent. In contrast, the speaker and those like him interpret reality through a more complex, contradictory, and skeptical lens, seeing deeper, darker truths rather than comforting simplicity. Nietzsche begins by describing the "sturdy peasant simplicity" with a tone that seems almost respectful, noting that it is "possible in all classes" and is something one can only regard with "respect and a smile." However, he quickly shifts to calling this simplicity "pure foolishness," suggesting that it is both admirable in its innocence and contemptible in its naivety. Respect vs. Dismissal: He says, "we others certainly refrain from contradicting," implying a degree of respect or at least tolerance for this simplicity. Yet, he simultaneously mocks it as "honorable stupidity," revealing his underlying disdain for such unexamined faith. Projection vs. Reality: The simple-minded project "their own honorable stupidity and goodness into the heart of things," effectively creating a God in their own image — a "deus myops," a short-sighted deity. Meanwhile, Nietzsche and "we others" project "our own enigmatic nature," filled with contradictions and darker wisdom, suggesting that all interpretations are projections, not truths. Nietzsche's Intent: Nietzsche often uses such contradictions to illustrate the tension between different modes of being and thinking. Here, he contrasts the naive simplicity of faith with the painful, skeptical complexity of the philosopher. The contradiction serves to highlight the existential gap between those who seek comforting illusions and those who confront uncomfortable truths.

Grateful for a nice birthday gift from my wife. Went to an eco hotel together outside of the city without the baby. Made 7 videos so far on the new youtube channel. Is relieving making videos without expectations but I am finding myself still checking the views and getting little dopamine hits which is not why i wanted to make them in the first place. Most excited to get more active in trading. Spent the past few months just studying up and getting ready for the move, but now that we're settled I can focus.
Freedom from
In IJ they talk about American’s constant want of ‘freedom from’ everything but never the importance of ‘freedom to’ do things It paints us as petulant children, avoiding responsibility and claiming it as a virtue. We want entertainment or drugs even if they kill is, all in the name of choice But we won’t make any collective effort to create a responsibility of choice. Is freedom of choice really better if we only ever choose the self, or choose things that are terrible for us?

Freedom for its own sake becomes meaningless if the self we’re choosing from is disconnected, numbed, or unhealed. True freedom isn’t just the ability to say yes or no—it’s the ability to choose well. Tennis without the deeper work is still a mask and not freedom.
I see the world through a single lens
Economics I could explain why in further detail but basically economics is the measurement of human behavior at scale And watching the market downturn, only slightly so far, is already presenting some scary results. As prices fall and market pain rises the more I’m hearing of divorce, fraud, and weird pain avoidant activities. I see these two things as directly linked, What surprises me most, though it shouldn’t, is how many of the “entrepreneurs” I know built their business and platforms on weak foundations that are now crumbling and taking their personal lives and values with them. I spent years learning and practicing diligent personal finance and I just assumed everyone else did as well. These things are not separate they are interdependent, when one fails it often corrupts the others. Its something like: Core values > structural relationships > personal finance sheet > business finance > personal reputation > business brand if you need help building said foundations I want this place to be a useful resource, DM me. I got 4 calls this week already about peoples personal and financial lives falling apart in tandem. Worse, this market pain we are seeing is just a little blip of what’s possible. we’ve seen some slowdown but no real retraction or large scale defaults.

Pretty random, but I listened to a few police interrogations with some people who did some fucked up stuff and that made me think about how everyone lies to themselves to make themselves seem sane. Even when called out on a lie, a new truth is made. It's also easy to get bullshitted by someone if you take everything for face value. It's hard to see the truth in people who know how to manipulate their way to get what they want. Fake gurus use cliche tactics which are easier to spot but even those aren't even enough when you want to believe them.

Grateful for Chatgpt this week. Helped with some powerful reflections that spurred me to make a couple videos on a new youtube channel. I've been holding myself back from creating just for the sake of creating without any expectations of performance because I kept telling myself I wasn't in a place where I could stop. Made the videos as like a diary for my kids with lessons and stuff Im going through.
