Favorite Snacks!
Hey, everyone! We're gonna get into it today: What are your favorite snacks? I would love to hear what kind of foods you enjoy on a daily basis. And this doesn't have to be the "heathiest" stuff. Part of being happy and healthy can include MODERATE consumption of things that we want but don't necessarily need. If it IS a healthy snack, you could give someone a new idea to help with their cravings! High calorie snacks for those looking to gain weight, low calorie snacks that help keep you in a caloric deficit to lose weight, and anything in between! I'll give a few of my favorites for different goals: 1. For fewer calories, I love to snack on beef jerky. Not the cheapest, but a great way to get lots of protein in without a crazy amount of sugar (depending on the kind you get: check the label for added sugars) and I know I have to drink extra water to keep up with the sodium intake, but that actually makes me feel great! 2. For gaining weight, specifically muscle gain, I love getting in some whole milk Greek Yogurt with as much fruit and granola as I can muster. It's gonna be more calorie dense and have more natural sugar, which can boost the calories I take in. There's good protein and some healthy fat in the Greek yogurt as well, and that fat can help with the sugar intake from the fruit from spiking my blood sugar/glucose levels as much. (The fiber from the whole fruit does that too, but that's a topic for another time..) 3. For personal enjoyment, I thoroughly enjoy Dot's pretzels. I used to think they tasted weird but nowadays getting a handful of those in just hits the spot sometimes... There are plenty others, but learning how to snack well was a game-changer for me! And if you're curious whether or not your snack is beneficial or just for enjoyment, don't hesitate to ask! Reply in this thread or DM me, and I'll help give you some information from what I know, or do some research to get the answer for you!

My favorite snack is definitely popcorn. I air pop my own kernels instead of getting the microwaveable bags that usually come with a ton of artificial flavors or low quality oils. The best part about it is its versatility after that. I can melt some butter or coconut oil to get in some extra fat calories. Maybe I’ll keep it simple with some salt but sometimes I like to add black or cayenne pepper and grated Romano cheese instead. Whatever fits the bill for the day! If I’m looking for more protein, Kirklands brand of turkey jerky is my go to.
Wins
Let's get positive on this Hump Day afternoon: what have been some wins this week? Small ones, big ones, something as simple as you getting enough water in today or trying out some new exercises that you ended up liking. Even if something went well at work! Every victory is something to celebrate! Even small wins can stack up over time. Let's hear 'em! 😁

I spent time reading and journaling instead of turning on the TV. I hit PRs at 🏀 last night.

@Philip Snyder best overall performance in all phases of the game for me. I shot at about 70% overall. 5/7 behind the 3-point line, no missed layups, 3 successful hook shots, 5 steals, 3 assist, even a couple rebounds on the taller guys. Most importantly, I had a ton of fun and sustained no injuries.
Monday Monday Monday
It's Monday again. Back at it. 💪🏻💪🏻 What will you do differently this week? If you won't change anything, why not? Legitimate questions here 🤷🏻‍♂️ What has helped you get to where you want to be, or, on the flip side, what specific things hinder your progress? 🤔🧐 We're talking something more specific than just saying, "time" but more like, "My kid has sport practice," or ,"This TV show is just too fun." I know, I know, it may sound silly, but being honest with yourself is vital for your wellness journey. Finding specific problems and answers can be a key to unlocking a way forward that's much more clear and manageable than you might've thought 👍

I’ve made a promise to myself to set aside more time for work on flexibility training and cardio. I’ve been feeling very strong lately but not as explosive or agile as I’d like. I didn’t realize until my rec basketball league started last week and I was running full court for a couple hours. A bit of a reality check but I will pivot and adapt as I always do. Plus side, reevaluating and setting new goals are the perfect self motivators! 💪

I have done yoga here and there at home and at various studios but I wouldn’t say that it’s been a consistent practice for me recently. I’ve been following a couple of people on instagram for their routines for stretching and mobility movements, movementbydavid and Elastaboy. Elastaboy has a 50% off promo for a 30 day Mobility challenge starting tomorrow. I signed up, not sure what to expect but he looks like he knows what he’s doing. Lol
Questions:
What are some burning questions you may have when it comes to wellness/fitness? Time of day, scheduling, meal planning/prepping, lifting form, what kind of workout routines to follow? This is by no means an extensive list, but I would love to hear your thoughts!

What’s your take on intermittent fasting? A buddy of mine swears by it for many reasons but I’ve always been skeptical.

@Philip Snyder @Andrew Schuler , thank you for sharing your perspectives on the topic. I should note that currently my personal fitness goals are not centered around body weight/fat loss. Moreso the optimal function of my digestive system and the key role nutrition plays to sustain my high level of daily activity. When it comes to digestion and your body’s ability to even absorb the fuel you’re putting in, I’ve found it difficult to navigate with so much conflicting information and studies out there nowadays. I of course, appreciate the feedback and will carry it with me 😊
Favorite exercise and why:
What is an exercise or activity that you love doing, and why? I'll go first: I love barbell squats. I love strengthening my legs to help lift my kids, run around with them, and keep my knees and hips strong and healthy to be able to do it for a long time.

I’m a big fan of pull-ups. There’s a huge correlation between grip strength and heart health which suggests overall longevity as I’ve come to understand it. I’ve been practicing different variations of this movement for a while now. Sometimes even just hanging for a while can feel good for my back and shoulders.
