Exploring AI receptionists for booking requests, looking for niche feedback
Hey all, I’ve been talking to dental clinics, and a lot of them are interested in an AI receptionist that handles booking requests. Not full calendar integration, just something where a patient calls, says the preferred time, and the AI logs the request so the clinic can follow up to confirm. I spoke to a lawyer, and his advice was clear: don’t target health businesses at my stage because anything involving health data carries GDPR and compliance risks. Building production-ready workflows for dental clinics isn’t worth the legal exposure right now. So, I’m thinking of pivoting this to veterinarians. Many clinics get a lot of calls, and having an AI receptionist handle requests after hours or if calls aren’t answered quickly could be valuable. My questions for the community: 1. Is this a good niche for an AI receptionist service? 2. Are there other industries with similar needs where this could work? 3. How would you market this? My approach is results-driven: fewer no-shows, 24/7 booking requests, faster response times, not selling “tech.” Would love to hear any ideas or examples from people who’ve built similar AI-driven customer service solutions.

@Kasper Bäckman Veterinarians could definitely be a good niche since they also deal with a high volume of calls and appointment requests. Other good niches could be salons, spas, plumbers or HVAC companies since they often miss calls and need quick booking requests. Positioning it around capturing missed calls and logging appointment requests 24/7 is usually a strong angle.
Connecting the client's phone number with the AI
Hey Guys, It might sound a silly Question, but I don't understand how I will connect the phone number of the AI Assistant to the phone number of the client, and what happens if the Client doesn't want to change his phone number to the AI number?

@Mohamed Yasser Good question, it's actually a common concern. The client usually doesn’t need to change their phone number. The AI assistant can be connected to their existing number using services like call forwarding, VoIP providers or integrations with their current phone system. This way, when someone calls or sends a message, the AI can answer, qualify the lead or assist the client while everything still runs through the client’s normal number. So from the customer’s perspective, nothing changes - they still contact the same business number.
importing json file to retell
Hi, I’ve created a JSON file externally using VS Code and saved it locally on my system. I’m trying to import it into Retell by drag-and-drop, but it keeps failing with errors like “invalid configuration” and similar validation issues. Could you please guide me on the correct way to import a JSON file into Retell? Is there a specific format, schema, or validation requirement that needs to be followed before uploading? If there’s any documentation or example of a properly structured import file, that would be very helpful. Thank you.

@Syed Atha Retell is very strict with schema validation, it’s not enough for the JSON to be valid, it has to match Retell’s exact structure. Best way to avoid errors is to export a working agent from Retell first and use that as your template. Most “invalid configuration” issues come from small field mismatches, missing required properties or incorrect node structure. If you can, compare your file side by side with a native export. That usually reveals the issue fast.
Time Problem
I keep getting the problem where I book a appointment for a specific time inside of retell Ai chat , for example 2:30, but then it would book it at 3:30 inside of my google calendar? Would anyone know a fix?

@Patryk Glodek That’s almost always a timezone mismatch. retell, your server or Google Calendar are likely set to different timezones, so 2:30 in one system becomes 3:30 in another. Check these three things: • Retell account timezone • The calendar’s default timezone in Google Calendar settings • The timezone being passed in the API request (look for UTC vs local time) Make sure everything is explicitly set (don’t rely on auto detect). Once all three match, the 1 hour shift should stop.
Help me
I am Senior Full-Stack / AI Engineer focused on building AI SaaS products, web and app that perform reliably under real production load. My phone is currently malfunctioning and causing region restrictions. If possible, please help me if you have a phone. I'll help you develop the project. https://t.me/kingsudo7

@Yuki Nakamura Be careful with posts like this. if someone is asking for access to your phone or accounts due to “region restrictions,” that’s a major red flag. No legitimate collaboration requires you to hand over personal device access. If they are a real engineer, they can:• Use a new device• Use proper business verification• Resolve restrictions directly with the platform . Never share your phone, SIM, verification codes or account access with anyone online.
