Medical Caution
First thing first: Take a breath and please don't worry about this post, but do take note. (Sorry -- if that's the right word -- for the long, careful post. Skip to the fourth paragraph, if you wish.) Second: I am neither a Western Medical Doctor nor a Oriental Medical Doctor. (I am. however, a health professional; a person with a body, mind & energy; and someone who researches what he is curious about.) And I think this could be important for your health. In the powerful class about how to love ourselves before and after sleep time, Jim expressed an appropriate, healthy respect toward the idea of changing energy with a cold shower, or at least a 30 second finish to a warm one. He accurately said it may not be for everyone. The helpful sheet on this that I now use daily, before and after bed, is compact and doesn't present those cautions. Western research agrees with the benefits. Western and Eastern approaches both say we may need to do it carefully or even give it a pass. In the West there is data that for some people, a cold plunge/shower can be dangerous for their health (and for others, not). I'm more familiar with the Eastern view. There, it's said that intense coldness can cause serious health crashes (non-tech term), especially, again, for certain health profiles. This is especially true for people who have "Kidney Meridian" imbalances, especially "Kidney Yang Deficiency" (which I have). In this hallowed healthcare, "Kidney" is associated partially with those organs, plus bladder, and also with: the entire nervous system; rest, exhaustion and overwhelm; the emotion, fear; low back pain; knee pain; bones and teeth; inner quiet and its lack, hearing; urination; sexuality; our will; and our fundamental life energy. Considering that list, I though that, as a population, ADHDers might be more prone than neuro-typical folks to these imbalances. And "Oriental MD A.I." fully and avidly agrees, and offers the specific reasons. I hesitated to say this. My inner critic used to imagine that heeding my great aversion to an otherwise therapeutic intense chill suggests that I may just be resistant and I should just do it. (I mean, I've walked on fire!) And I wouldn't want to dissuade anyone unnecessarily from the potential benefits.

I live in the Philippines, and most foreigners, when they get here, are appalled by the # of places that don't have hot water in the showers, or anywhere else for that matter. To be honest, I was like that too, but then I realized that the water here never really gets cold. It is cool, but not like you see in the places in the world that have 4 seasons. I have had no hot water in my showers here for 4+ years and have no problem with it. At home in America, I did finish most of my showers with a cool into cold routine.

@Bruce Markow We should all adapt to lifestyles that make us as comfortable/happy as we can. I've reached that point. I finally worked my finances out so I don't have to push to get/make more money. That doesn't mean rich, that means I'm OK. There are tons of things that are great here, and some that are not, but if you put them on a scale, there are more positive than negative things. If you want to learn any more, just message me.

@Tarnya Matthews I almost always made friends wherever I went. Part of that was due to my ADHD masks. But part of it was also due to my outgoing/friendly nature. I have never judged people by their race/religion etc. Now I am pretty much settled here in the Philippines.

@Tarnya Matthews The real advantage the Philippines has over other Asian countries is that English is taught in all the schools. The only people that are unhappy here are the ones who come here and try to change this country instead of living in it and adapting to the different culture. Getting anything done here always takes a lot more time, and driving here is a bit crazy. There are laws on the books about driving, but almost none are ever enforced. I live in northern Cebu, but if my lady didn't have her whole family here, I would live somewhere just southwest of Davao City. It is a very safe area, and most of the people are very friendly. If you need to be on/near the water, I would suggest Samal Island, one bridge ride from Davao. There are lots of little things I miss, but there are lots of things here I love, so it all balances out. Yes, there are typhoons, and at times lately earthquakes, but the Davao area has proved safe. Any more questions, just message me.
ADHD + Reading = Obsession Anyone
Who else here is a full-blown reading addict?? I’ve realized something about myself.......I am 100% an “all or nothing” person. It’s in my DNA. Never done drugs, never smoked (not judging, just know myself)… because if I like something.......Oh, it’s game over..... Food...... I will eat the SAME thing every day for 6 months straight and then suddenly act like it personally offended me and never touch it again.... Rules that say “take no more than one”? Cool cool… I’ll take two just to see what happens. For science. Obviously. Then I found reading…And I was like ohhhhhh this is my new personality now..... The difference was, it wasn’t forced. No tests, no pressure. Just me choosing it. BUT… life got busy, and sitting down to read felt impossible. Enter: audiobooks here...... Now I can “read” while driving, cleaning, zoning out, avoiding responsibilities (you know… normal things). And when my brain gets loud or chaotic, I put a book on and it’s like everything just… quiets down..... Let the peace begin.... I get completely lost in it, and honestly......... Sometimes (alot of the time) that escape is exactly what I need. I’ll read/listen to anything—self-help, thrillers, romance, dark romance, fantasy… if it exists, I’ll try it at least once..... So I’m curious ( i think curious should be my middle name), does reading or listening to books help quiet your brain too? And what are you currently obsessed with?? Let’s talk books—I need new ones anyway!🤣

@Jeff Preciado I have moved so much it was never sensible of me to collect books. And, to be honest, almost all of my free time now is spent writing lyrics, and searching for co-writers to turn them into complete songs. But, once in a while I do find a few books in English here and use them to kill time waiting in line at government offices here. LOL!

@Deb Brouwer Some things I never realize until I start thinking about them. This was one of them. but it rings true. My mind always pictured/smelled/heard what I read. It can't do that when it is already on the screen in front of you.

In My life
I am very glad I found this site and it is not because misery loves company. It is because I found there are so many others who are/have been suffering through some/most/more of the challenges I faced in my life. I did the snapshot and it told me exactly where I am in my life, and I agree. I have been able, after 40+ years to take a long hard look at my challenges and behaviors and find strategies to not only survive but to grow from them. My being here lets me share some of those same strategies with others.I am not here for any personal gain other than the happy feeling I get from offering advice that has helped me.
