Decision Making
Hi guys, I really struggle with my decision making when a through ball is played to just outside the box. Sometime I come out too late and find myself in an awkward position and end up conceding the 1v1, or I don’t come out at all and the striker gets a goal. How could I solve this problem?

If it is a long ball could your starting position be higher (as in further out) so you then have more chance to get to the ball first? It is difficult to make the correct decision and my son has just spent many weeks training these scenarios and its about judging the flight of the ball so can you get there first. When the player has the ball watching his first touch, is it forward, in which case you go out for a block or to get the ball. If its control and leg back to shoot then it is set ready to make the save.
daughter is not happy
She got a Concussion last week in the match so she is on the bench for two weeks . She still wanted to go and cheer the team on from the bench .

Hope she recovers well. It is frustrating following the concussion rules especially when all appears OK. It happened to my son and because he is at an academy he was out for a long time with a slow phased return.
4 Games in & Over 50 Goals Conceded
First game 10-0 Second game 25 (or more, lost count) - 0 Third game 3-3 A great game. Forth game 16 - 0 This is the Central Warwickshire Sunday league. A complete mis-match of the teams abilities. Hopefully the games will get more even Only one person benefitted from this and that is my son in goal. He had lots to do, made some great saves and his head didn't drop. Plus his outfield team mates kept on going. The other teams were celebrating like they had won the league! But they didn't learn much. Hopefully the league will arrange more even games as soon the boys will get disillusioned.

Our manager has written to the league so hopefully we will get more even fixtures. There is always a little bit of finding out teams levels early on but it’s never been this bad. His team hasn’t changed much since last season. If anything it’s got a bit stronger so either the league has really got it wrong or the other teams have put themselves in the wrong tier.

Hello I am John, a parent of 2 boys. My oldest plays as a GK at U13 in a Cat 1 academy and previously spent 6 months in a development centre another Cat 1 academy as an outfield player. My youngest plays at U11 in goal on a Sunday and outfield on Saturdays.
Advice or Tips please
Can anyone help, my son puts 100% into all his training sessions, make fantastic saves, high dives etc but it seems when it comes to games he forgets all this training and doesn’t execute the things he does in training, it’s frustrating cos he’s very good but sometimes makes silly errors perhaps just sticking a leg out or not diving when in training he’d be all over it, I know being in a game is different to training with nerves etc but what can I do to help him,

Does he know where the shots are going in training? I see so many training sessions where the coach says where the shot will go and the gk will save it. But in a game it’s random. Make sure the training is random shots and get him to recognise the body movement of the striker. My younger son is like this. Amazing in training but looks poor in games. But it’s because he lacks game time and those random situations you can’t train for.
