Day One- IX of Wands and Death
Today, instead of journaling about something from a sacred text, I decided to pull a couple tarot cards and reflect on that instead. I am by no means an expert at tarot, but here goes⦠Subject: IX of Wands (Resilience, courage, persistence, test of faith, boundaries). Death (endings, change, transformation, transition) Observations: The IX of Wands and Death is a beautiful pairing. The IX of Wands is basically the final push or struggle before the end of a chapter or phase or specific goal youāre working toward. And I like to think of Death as radical transformation (change that is exciting instead of something to be afraid of). Paired together it reminds me of Niyama #3- Tapas, which is heat or transformation. Through fire, we burn off what no longer serves us to make space to transform into something new. Struggle and suffering can make you stronger when you come out the other end. So even though lately I've been feeling a bit burnt out, like Iāve been through battle and came out a bit battered, those struggles are helping me to let go of what I no longer need so I can transform into a stronger, more compassionate version of myself. Application: IX of wands encourages resilience and persistence, but honestly pushing through can feel like burnout sometimes. So just like before Tapas, thereās Niyama #2- Saucha/Purity, I want to purify my body and mind to prepare for the transformation that is to come. For me, that means eating cleaner to help with mental clarity and energy, practicing moving meditation to calm the mind and getting enough rest to recover. By doing these things to help purify my body, I will have more endurance, which may prevent burnout as Iām in the final stretch. I will purify my mind by replacing any critical or self hating thoughts with ones of encouragement and compassion, so instead of focusing on the struggle I can express gratitude for the process. And if I feel any fear at the unknown or the changes on the brink of happening, I will remember that the process is paving the way for something greater. So by leaning into the change instead of resisting it will make it all easier.
