Happy Friday!!
This week was mostly about resting. I was not feeling well most of it. Tuesday I did get a Pilates workout in but it left me so sore that today was just some restorative flow. Dutchess and I were channeling out inner calm.
Happy Friday!!

@Krista Evans Great question 🙌 Fast-digesting carbs are important after a workout because when you workout, your muscles burn through stored glycogen for energy (carbs). If you don’t replace it, recovery slows down and soreness hangs around longer. Pairing a quick carb like rice cakes, white rice, a bagel, or Ignition with your protein shakes helps refill those glycogen stores super quick and drives the protein into your muscles faster. That’s the combo that speeds up recovery. Hope that helps!

This is me
Hi! I'm Amanda. I live in Simsbury Connecticut after moving here in 2020. I am a mom of 4; 2 girls aged 15 and almost 14, and 2 sons aged 10 and almost 6 months. I am engaged to be married October 25th and can't wait to be a wife to my best friend! I'll be gaining a beautiful step daughter. We have a 70 lbs Rottweiler and love our blended family. I NEED to workout for my mental and physical health. I LOVE to eat and play! Enjoy scotch and a few beers with my fiancé when we can. I don't have many friends here in CT, so this community means so much to me to be able to keep in touch with old friends and make new ones! I love inspiring others as it inspires me as well. I am a stay at home, breastfeeding mom currently, so looking to improve my meal prepping since I'm only feeding myself 90% of the time. I love challenges and anything that makes working out and eating healthy fun! Looking forward to engaging with you all 💪🔥

Welcome, Amanda!
The value of rest days
At one point in my life I would work out 6 or even 7 days a week. I felt like I had to in order to “earn” my food, not realizing that I was risking injury, overtraining, and exhaustion. I did not value the idea that rest is where the magic happens until I started following fitness plans (AS DESIGNED!) and taking the days to rest or follow active recovery. Once I did begin to see the “magic” that happens when we do allow our body time to recover, repair, and rest (with adequate sleep, proper nutrition, and rest days) I began to believe it for myself. I saw the power of it! One thing that worked for me was training my brain to love the idea of starting Saturdays and Saturdays with a nice, warm, nutritious breakfast & coffee (something I don’t have the luxury of enjoying while I’m rushing off to work during the week). Typically I get up before the boys and it’s also valuable alone and quiet time which I need as an introverted mom. >> since Wesley got older, I now do grocery shopping VERY early on Saturday mornings, before the boys wake up and before most of the world is at Wegmans. I absolutely love this quiet time alone to get our healthy food for the week 🥰🥰 it truly recharges me and fills my cup. My suggestion is to give rest days a chance and replace intense workouts with something like I did - the slow, beautiful start. 🌟Rate yourself on a scale of 1-5 with regard to taking your rest and recovery days. If you’re up near 4 or 5: awesome! 🙌🏼 Keep crushing it & share what works for you! If you’re below a 3… good for you! 👏🏼 You’re here, and you’re practicing self-awareness. What’s your plan to improve and implement more rest in the future! Let us hold you accountable!

Hola!
My name is Lauren and I am from Chambersburg, PA! 🗺️ My goal is to find a healthy balance of being a new mom and making sure I am taking care of myself so I can be the best version of myself for my husband and son.💙 I hope to be a part of an uplifting, positive community!👏🏼 One thing I would like to improve on is my nutrition. Planning ahead and making healthier meals. 🥗 I am an English as a second language teacher and this year I have 90 students on my carseload!🌎

Hi I'm Bridget!
Hi everyone, my name is Bridget Esguarra and I am from Langhorne Pennsylvania. I am 39 years old and will be 40 in March. I am a mom of two beautiful girls. One is almost 4 years old and one just turned one years old. I have been with my husband for 10 years and married 5 1/2. I am a human resource manager for an aerospace company. I have my masters and human resource management and just love to learn. One goal of mine to get my doctorate but not tell anybody that I'm doing it and kind of just surprise everybody. That's a goal for another day lol. I absolutely love working out. It's my me time. My alarm goes off at 3:40 AM and I am up and at it. I am learning not to hit news so I can get my workouts done. One thing I struggle with is nutrition. I just cannot seem to get it down. I do come from the background of an eating disorder so I do feel like that plays a lot into it because I do not want to restrict myself or get into a bad habit. So for me, it's finding that happy medium. My husband is a restaurant manager so most nights I'm on my own. Those nights it's just me and the girls so I feed them and I run around packing lunches and getting ready for the next day while trying to get ready for bedtime. I used to meal plan. I used some meal prep, but sometimes you just get bored and don't want the food that you prep. I have been really thinking about going back and doing the portion facts from body but again I don't want to restrict. But I also think that is what I need right now. Looking forward to meeting you all and getting to know you all. My current workout right now is the Ladder app and I absolutely love it. I follow team Alpha and I get my running in as well as my lifting. It is the best of both worlds.
