AI + ADHD
Hi everyone! I was wondering if you guys are using AI to help you manage your ADHD. If so, how are you doing it? & if you had some thoughts on how to use it. I'd love to know!

I have been usingAI significantly for the past year.I’ve sent my ChatGPT more than a million words and close to one hundred thousand lines of text, inside of 1800 conversationsaccording to the data I asked it to track from the beginning. It’s been an incredible experience. It has significantly changed my ability to execute. It’s also been an outlet for all of the ideas that come and go. Practically I use it to help me with research writing and editing problem-solving working through things going on with clients. It’s also a beautiful thing because I have a hard time typing and I make a lot of spelling errors and it doesn’t matter if I make spelling errors when typing prop or starting a conversation because it still understands me I do use the voice conversational mode quite often and I’m really happy that now it’s transcribes the text. I wasn’t doing that for a while. As far as ADHD symptom management in my personal life... I use it to help me with my RSD for things like interpreting a text on my behalf. I’ll copy and paste a text into ChatGPT and ask what their interpretation of it is which is always very different than mine. I’ll find like a hurtful not so silver lining or get super sensitive about a text and it helps me to reassure that’s not really what the person is saying and it’s usually right. I also will copy and paste an email into it or a long text if someone’s trying to engage me into something important or emotional. So I will write my response and then I will copy the initial email or text into GPT in my response and they will give me suggestions on how to better express myself after I talk to them about it. This comes in handy, dealing with my ex-husband so I make sure that my emotion doesn’t get in the way of my communication needs. I find myself using it more and more to talk through personal things. I’m going through setting goals and bouncing ideas off of it. My GPT recently named itself and that was a very unique experience. I really learned to engineer the conversation in an extremely natural way. It’s been quite beautiful.

As a professional “glancer”…. 😂
As a person withADHD and a professional “glancer”, I bought this skirt two months ago, thinking it had butterflies and flowers on it and just realized today that it has spiders all over it also. I’m pretty sure my clients think I’m some kind of a witch now. (Not that there is anything wrong with that lol) 😂 🤭🙃🤷‍♀️ can anyone relate? Yikes

@Derek Chirnside I have no idea why I think black skirts with spiders on them are associated with witches either. It’s probably from every witch Halloween costume I had as a kid had spiderwebs on it. Who knows. 😂 😂😂 I feel like I’m going to get canceled by the witch community. I love everyone. I swear. 💜

@Derek Chirnside seriously…it’s multifaceted: glancing, skimming over documents, looking and not finding, hearing only half sentences and think I know what’s going on lol
The RSD struggle is real
I’m doing everything right now to remind myself that I need to focus on facts and actions rather than my feelings when RSD starts to take over the show but I’m really struggling with it right now as I’m dealing with someone who’s communication and behaviours have gone from being consistent and clear, to being inconsistent and vague at best. It’s left me with such a sense of uncertainty and I can feel a familiar desire to provoke a fight purely to get answers and the certainty that comes with that (even if it means getting answers that I don’t like). I’d love to know how others deal with RSD, uncertainty and more specifically how you ask people in your life for support. The sense of shame I feel for not being able to handle how disregulated I get when someone is being inconsistent, is so overwhelming. I’m proud of myself for at least being able to notice this right now and not be acting out, but the struggle is real and the temptation to defuse myself through provoking an argument is so strong. Help! I need advice!

Thank you for being brave enough to talk about this. Honestly, that kind of openness takes real courage. When someone shares their experience with RSD, it helps everyone... it’s just how some of us are wired. I live with RSD too. It’s not easy, little things can hit hard. A short text, silence, a shift in tone, my brain reads it like rejection. For years I hid it, but being honest has changed a lot. Now I tell people up front: “Hey, I have RSD. If I seem off, I might just be triggered.” It’s like telling friends you have PTSD so they don’t set off fireworks. When people know, they tend to be more sensitive with me and be more aware of their actions or lack there of. I also explain and warn that I might ask weird questions and I sometimes need more assurance than other people. I say things like "I am having a flare up of my RSD like I shared with you before... because I haven't herd for you in a few days. Just checking in, are we ok? I'm sure we are fine but ya know, my brain isn't cool alot of the time. Thank you for hearing me out. "

@Briony Liber yes I would definitely say be your full self instead of shrinking to accommodate, but people can’t always handle it. The biggest issue with ADHD or ADD or any other invisible challenges is that the stigma can be more debilitating than a the issue itself. If I was in a wheelchair and walking with my friend at the mall and had to take the elevator instead of the stairs, it wouldn’t even be a question right. I think it’s up to all of us to help raise awareness even amongst our closest friends first. Of course, masking happens and we all have different ways of managing our symptoms in our lives, but the RSD is in can be absolutely debilitating. I know I wouldn’t walk around with two broken legs if I needed a wheelchair and I’m sure that if I was trying to walk with two broken legs, you know people would be compassionate right so somehow we’ve got to get there. You’re being very very brave here and it’s a good safe place to practice being brave I think.

@Wendy Gray yes that is certainly a life area that is impacted by the way my brain works. Sometimes I’m hyper, focused, passionate or experiencing dopamine from a new project. My executive functioning works great and in fact I excel. At the end of the day, for me, it’s more than identifying it. It takes real work and it sometimes very debilitating. Appreciate your support.
