Wednesday wins!
Happy hump day yall! Share your wins from this week below, big or small! I’ll start - did a very uncomfy speed workout on Monday and hit more of the paces than I expected :) Your turn! 👇

@Steven Salefske absolutely nothing wrong with treadmill miles! Great job finding the motivation to get it done!
Fueling
I was wondering if anyone would have any good book suggestions on fueling. I really want to learn more about fueling my body before, during, and after my runs. Thank you in advance.

@Kristine Owen Wood I’ll have to check these profiles out too! Thank you for sharing them!
Happy Monday!
Hi yall! Super stoked to join this group after recently finding this podcast. I am a former athlete who’s found her home in the gym with lifting but has always wanted to run a marathon. My cousin ran her first last year and is finally getting me over that hump to run one with her. Shooting for Milwaukee Lakefront on October 4th!
Happy Monday!

Welcome to the community Annika! I love a good lift session at the gym too. 😊 that strength training will help you as you train for your marathon! Feel free to reach out anytime with any questions you have. Nothing is off the table - odds are if you have a question about it, we’ve had the same, so we’d love to help you find the answer!
Hi marathoners!
I'm so happy to have discovered Taylor's podcast + this community as I train for my 1st marathon (May 2 in Durham, NC).

@Sophie Adamson This is a fantastic question! I’ll try to cover as many factors as possible. 😊 You sound like you have an amazing base and great progress in your plan! I completely understand not wanting to get injured, and that is definitely something to monitor. Looking at the layout of your long runs, I think if you stick to that as it is, you’re going to be setting yourself up really well for the marathon. (I haven’t used the Run with Hal app, but I’ve heard that those who have loved it!) It’s building you up to hit 20 miles while still giving your body some recovery time in between. It’s important to have deload weeks to let your body recover so that way you (hopefully) don’t get injured. I don’t necessarily know that I would recommend “several” more 18-milers, but that’s because I tend to struggle with shin and foot injuries and tend to be pretty cautious. When I trained for my marathon (I just went back and looked at my plan lol), I had a 16, 20, 18, and 22 mile (I ended up only doing 20 for that one, never made it past 20 during training) long run near the end of my training. I had a 16 miler after that, then a final long run of 12 miles the week before the marathon. That being said, I had some wicked foot pain happening that I thought was gonna take me out from even starting the race. I think it’s worth taking their thoughts into consideration, and it sounds like you could handle some added distance, but at the end of the day listen to your body. Maybe instead of several longer runs, make one of the long runs one or two miles longer than what’s scheduled. If you’re unsure though, I would say stick with the plan you have. If you can hit 20 miles in my opinion (even 18 miles is fine), you’ll be able to hit 26.2. I definitely think on race day that adrenaline, crowd support, and excitement will help carry you to the finish. Plus you will have tapered and be on fresher legs (you’ll still likely be tired, but not the cumulative fatigue from the weeks of building in training).
