Black Popular- Done except for a few touchups
A little touch up needed yet especially in the upper middle branches of the main tree against the sky.

@Chuck Taylor Thanks, Chuck!! I only added a little more shadow under some of the background trees. And under the main tree to someone else’s suggestion.
B&W moon lit forest
Here is a B&W painting I started back in January of this year. It is a made up composition based on a photo I saw online and an all terrain vehicle pathway on a friend’s farm. I started out with a path and then changed it to a stream. I then put the painting aside as it looked dull and flat. I revisited the painting this month and worked on my shadows and highlights. Feedback would be appreciated.

Very nice work, Joe, especially the one farthest left!

I haven’t looked at it yet Sam, but I’m eager to do so when I have better time. Maybe bit by bit. Anyway thanks so much for your offer on what I’m sure is a great summary on good landscape painting.
On my Easel - Winter Without Snow is One of my Favourite Things to Paint.
Hey Artists I've just posted a new video below giving you a look at where we're at with our current painting in Sam's Art School, and honestly, I'm loving how it's coming together. We've got bare winter trees, that stripped-back skeletal quality you only get when the leaves are gone. A field with sheep catching some beautiful light. And behind it all, dark, brooding mountains sit deep in shadow. The contrast is everything. The whole painting is really an exercise in capturing winter colour, and winter colour is so much more interesting than people give it credit for. It's not grey and dead, it's subtle, it's warm against cool, it's all about finding the light hiding in the landscape. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW 👇 I walk you through my process so far and show you exactly where we're headed with it. And the good news? We're not done yet. I'm continuing work on this painting live at Sam's Art School tomorrow, painting along together, step by step, with real-time Q&A. 🗓 Monday 9AM New Zealand time 🗓 Sunday afternoon if you're joining from the USA If you've been thinking about joining, now is a great time. You can try everything FREE for 7 days. Watch me paint live, access 60+ tutorials, and get feedback on your work. If it's not for you, cancel before Day 7 and pay nothing. 👉 Try it free: https://www.skool.com/samuel-earp-online-art-school/about Come paint with me. 🎨 Cheers. Sam

Sometimes I’ve wondered if there isn’t more color in winter then summer given all the various browns, earth yellows abd nice greys.
Cat. Oil on canvas
This is an older painting. I have a tendency to get lost in details, and simplifying is something I still struggle with.

Very well done though, Renate! I have to wonder if “getting lost in detail” is virtually a necessity if it’s going to be done that good! But that’s a bit of a guess; just a hunch.

@Renate Wagner Very interesting, “This copying has nothing to do with art.” And upon that feeling unable to be proud of it. I agree that that can be true as I found out years ago. When I saw painting as only an attempt to look like something rather than as a form of art it was boring for me. But when I discovered visual art as art my interest became much more alive. This was especially so in my college days years ago with abstract sculpture. With line, shape, form etc. I aimed for and created a sense of mood and beauty that was satisfying for me. While I now like realism in my painting presently I like striving for beauty at least and I’m enjoying that. Anyway the realism done in your painting obviously shows genuine talent and then your understanding that even this level of realism isn’t necessarily art and your interest in Sam’s painting as art, to me shows talent on the side of visual art as art rather then just copying something. Again I find your take on this matter as very interesting.

Did art in college in the late seventies and early eighties. Graduated from college with art as my major. Did very little art sense.
