New Starliner Case Study
I'll tell you something that blows my mind. When large organisations fail, there is definitely a lot that we can learn. I've added a new case study in the classroom called Boeing Starliner that goes into it. Members who are in the Human Factors Kickstart course cover this as part of the course. Go ahead and discuss it here if you feel inclined to do so.

@David East you are right that those are human behaviours. I guess the issue at hand is that it is not spoken about enough. I’m very new in my journey at providing my workshops, and the common uh huh moments is acknowledging that what happens in a team and challenging moments are normal human behaviours. Knowledge and perspective are key at working with the behaviour opposed to against it and labeling them generically as personality issues. In the healthcare systems it’s a mix of business and healthcare, I believe the two currently are not working together, but in silos. That’s what diminishes the ownership. And the handballing to someone else reduces ownerships. There is a lack of transparency, I remember asking an executive at the workshop how we were going to manage the ambulance offload challenge, she responded abruptly with a forceful tone of “there are conversations in the background” with a room full of ED Nurses, it broke the trust quicker than I could take a breath, why bother asking any questions when that is the response. 🤷‍♂️

Hello all. I’m going to have to cancel tonight’s Connection Call. It’s the wife’s birthday so I’m going to hang with her. I look forward to hanging with you next week, though.

Who Gets The Promotion
If your organisation has toxic stars, you don't just have a culture problem. You also have a broken reward system. In healthy organisations, the impact people have on others is a key factor in their pay, performance and promotions. If you're an asshole, you're not a success. This quote by Adam Grant calls out organisations that reward and promote people who get stuff done, but leave a trail of broken people. They're burnt out, they're treated poorly, they would leave tomorrow if given another job opportunity. How about a culture where a leader is rewarded and promoted for positive impact on people (360 feedback, team retention and team output) + results. That’s where I want to work.

Well done on saying this mate. Gives those vocal cords a rest now. I was saying this the other day to a colleague. In the healthcare setting, if you do the time on the ward, you generally get the promotion if you want it. The hard thing with this is many take the role, but get minimal to no training in management OR Leadership, and they will climb the ladder based on time and “commitment” opposed to their leadership ability. Now I’m not saying that is everyone, there are a select few who do work on building their leadership skills and are good people. But it’s rare.
Sunrise Gratitude
Had a beautiful sunrise today. Despite being a cooler day today the sun coming up was quite lovely. Picture doesn’t do it justice

Blue Mountains Gratitude
This walk this morning set me up for such a good day. When you start your day by checking emails, it turns to shit. When you have the opportunity to start your day by going for a walk or a run, or in my case, hiking through the Blue Mountains, life is good. When your workplace encourages it to increase your focus at work, that’s a good place to work
