My first 1 star review.. the joys
So I’ve had my first 1 star review. I knew it would come eventually because I had been pretty fortunate that I had quite a few 5 star reviews. It’s only knocked my average down to 4.9 so I’m not majorly fussed. The customer complained that the poster was thin and damaged…then said it was a poor print job. I messaged her to offer to send out a replacement, apologise if it didn’t meet her expectations, explain that they are 200gsm+ etc however this was her response. The third picture is of the posters from the side (there’s two posters there)….am I tripping or is that not thin at all?? She mentioned that she can’t even prop up the posters because they’re so thin. I do think this is probably a case of unrealistic expectations…. Because I would never dream of just propping a poster up without a frame, that’s not how they’re meant to be used obviously. I’m not sure if she was expecting a canvas or something. Now the last picture could’ve been a printing error, however she has declined my offer of a replacement. I don’t accept refunds for my shop, and I’m half tempted to respond to her 1 star review to lock it (because she’s clearly not going to change it any higher), then decline her refund. Maybe I’m being mean though šŸ˜† Just wanting some advice about where to go from here? What would you respond, and would you refund her in this instance?

First order is in, but how do I ship it
Hi everyone, just got my first order in, but it is someone from Austria. In her details its names the city as Wien, cause ofcourse that is Vienna in German. Do I put down Wien als it states, or do I change it to Vienna? Also, when putting down all the information mannualy (cause her order is not yet fully paid it and it says cause it doesnt show up in my connected etsy account on Printshrimp), I need to fill in a state on Printshrip, but Austria does not have States. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance guys!

For future reference I normally fill in the details as they are shown on the order on Etsy. So I would copy and paste exactly as it’s written. Second question, for countries where they don’t have states I usually just write the name of the country. That does mean it’ll say the country twice on the shipping label but I’ve not really found another way around this. But as Mihai has said, do not send this order. If it has not been fully paid then it is a scam. You will get loads of these in the early days. I’ve stopped getting them now a few months in. As your shop gains more traction they should fizzle out. Starting up with Etsy is expensive enough as it is, in the beginning (having to pay all the initial fees out your pocket), without losing more money to scammers. Keep your wits about you.

@Mihai Volintiriu I’m on it šŸ˜… just getting all my SKU’s in order as I didn’t set these up on Etsy when I started so now have to go through hundreds of listings to add them 🄲 but should be able to connect it to print shrimp by the end of the week!
Etsy integration question
I haven’t integrated printshrimp with my Etsy yet. I am just about to get my SKU’s sorted (I missed this out originally and now have to go back and add them to my Etsy). I just have a question, will I need to upload all sizes of my posters to printshrimp (atm I’m only uploading them to the portal as and when I get orders to avoid the upfront work), in order to match the SKU’s for the Etsy integration? I assume if I get an order in a size I haven’t got uploaded to printshop that this won’t transfer over?

@Callum Evans amazing thank you!!!
4 months in…what I’ve learned
So it’s around about the 4 month mark since setting up my shop. He’s how it’s been going: Started in April. I have now made 96 sales and now sell between 1-5 posters a day. I have made a total of Ā£1696 in revenue. I have around 200 posters listed and I run Etsy ads at $3 a day (for a select few listings). I am however considering increasing my ad budget but slightly scared I’ll have a drop in sales. Any advice on that front would be helpful, I’m half tempted to leave the ad budget as it is because it seems to be working pretty well so far. I earned my star seller badge exactly 3 months after my first sale, after having my account put into a payment reserve (profit prison). I have a review rate of about 9%, with 5 stars across the board. I will say it did take a little while to really pick up but I have roughly doubled my sales and revenue each month since I started. In the past 18 days since the beginning of August, I have made Ā£700 in revenue, I reckon I’m on track to reach around Ā£1,000 in revenue this month. Some things I’ve learned along the way - 1. You do get out what you put in. I am planning on adding more posters to my shop. My success has largely been due to one of my poster designs hitting it off. 2. 2. Make variations of the posters that sell. I have made about 20 variations of my most popular poster. The niche that I am in makes it quite easy to pump out almost infinite variations of the same poster. I’d say about 90% of my sales come from some variation of my most popular poster. 3. 3.i personally started taking commissions to do personalisations on certain posters. This does obviously require a certain skill level in art although this is mainly done through AI with my own personal touches added manually. This is also obviously more time consuming and isn’t suitable for everyone, but it generates a bit of extra income for me and is quite a popular choice, plus I can afford the time and effort it takes me. I would say to anyone starting out that it’s definitely possible to earn some decent money from doing this and I am very grateful that I stumbled across toms TikTok account and decided to take the plunge to learn how to get started. It came at a pretty good time in my life where I had to take a step back from my regular job (as a nurse) because I was burnt out. Art used to be my main hobby growing up but I fell out of love with it. It’s nice to get back in it and I can genuinely say I really enjoy my little poster business.

Best AI
Just getting back into this after years of printing from home (the reason i stopped) Back then i was using Playground in its early days, is this option still enough ... would Chat GPT be a good option now? Thoughts?

I started off using playground, and to be fair the new updates have made it better than it was. I personally made the switch to Sora though as I just find it ā€˜gets’ what I’m asking it to do. They do offer 12 free credits per day if you wanted to give it a try and see if it works for you. But it’s personal preference. I have used chat gpt on occasion too, and it’s decent. I’ve never tried midjourney personally. Maybe have a play around and find what works best for your style.
