Building culture leads to less turnover
The more often we go out with our team and spend time together after work, the less negativity spreads within the team when they don’t like something. This also goes for spouses. As often as possible, invite your team’s spouse along to outings. Their spouse is their cheerleader when they’re having a tough time. Give their spouse something to cheer for and help them to like the business as well. If their husband or wife thinks that you are a good owner and likes that they get invited to things and can tell what kind of person you are and is friends with your wife or husband, when things get tough they will give you the benefit of the doubt. I made a post on Facebook about working hard and giving it. You’re all every day and you will be noticed and it was very interesting to see the response. So many people had negative things to say about their employer and how they were never noticed. Taking your team out is a great way for them to feel noticed and rewarded. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. -Breakfast at IHOP -Batting cage -Tickets to a baseball game -Bowling -Rent a movie theater and invite the entire family -Take them to lunch anytime you do a ride along -Bring their favorite drink when you meet them at a job -Watch the fights at Buffalo Wild Wings -Barbecue swim party at your house for families Pro tip: Bring your kid or spouse with you. Let your team get to know your family. It’s good for kids to see their mom/dad work. And it’s great for your spouse to know as many of your team as possible since you probably talk about the team with them at home. Plus it tightens the circle even more. And for this example, I got to write-off taking my kid to a baseball game. Win-win

@Cory Hodnett it's usually just hanging out at somebody's house for holidays. Somebody will cook a ham and a dozen other dishes. You know how those things go.

I'm just here to learn and share. It's nice seeing different perspectives and ways of doing things.
Competition update!
So far I’ve sold 2 rodent station add ons and 1 mosquito customer. That’s $325 up front and $95/month in recurring. Who else has an update? Is this a difficult challenge? What results are you getting? What are you learning from your customers?

Grats - that's about 1% of the way to $100k and you still have 364 more days!!!
Go-Back Advice
If you were able to go back in time and give yourself advice when you first started your business. What would your advice be? Put more than one if you’re having trouble narrowing it down.

@Cory Hodnett I'm a big fan of getting a Google profile and collecting reviews from real customers. A lot of small businesses completely ignore it, but it's literally the easiest way to grow in my opinion because it's a pretty low effort task. Pairing that with some home warranty contracting for any kind of repair service and the early-stage revenue problem should be pretty much solved.

@Cory Hodnett I agree with getting reviews on multiple platforms. Google is the best starting out though because the faster you build a presence there, you're basically unlocking free leads for life as long as you play by the rules and keep building a legit business. Yelp and Angi's paid programs are the worst early on though. You're competing against 4 other companies for the same lead, usually price shoppers. So speed to lead is huge and it isn't great for owners who are out in the field doing fulfillment.
Quick Win - Immediate Profit 💰
Here’s a tip to raise your profit immediately with NO EXTRA WORK. Call your merchant agency. The one you use to process credit cards. Ask them for a rate review. You want them to lower the amount they charge you to process cards. Leverage: In your conversation use these for leverage: 1: How long you have been with them. They love a loyal customer. 2: You have increased your volume since the last time they did a rate review or since you started. 3: Tell them your projections for growth so they can see themselves making more money from you if you stay. The numbers they give can be confusing. When they come back to you with a new rate, ask them what your monthly and annual savings will be with that new rate. That all goes to your bottom line! **Pro tip: You can do this every 6 months - Especially if you’re growing. Set a reminder in your phone that repeats every 6 months so you don’t forget to call. What will you use the extra money for? (Leave a comment below)

That's an awesome tip! You can do the same with your credit cards too as long as you use credit wisely.

@Cory Hodnett I had one down to 15% when rates were at 0 a few years ago. I use them constantly and see carrying a balance as a last resort. If you have a 2% cashback card you're getting 2% of your expense budget back every month as long as you pay off the full balance every month. It's also better than getting holds put on your bank account for hotels and other big expenses.
