My Channel
Good morning! I just started my channel on Feb 1 after being laid off at 63. I started collecting SS last year but was working a part-time job in the corporate world. I wanted to start a channel for the last year or so but was always sooo scared to post the video for various reasons... I felt cringe looking at myself on video; I was trying to lose the weight I had gained after having kidney cancer and so many other excuses. I told my friend I was going in to the office to return my laptop (I worked from home) and told her I'm going to make a YouTube video about it. Her response was, "You've been saying that for a year or so." Well, I made the video and then posted it on Sunday, Feb 1st. It felt cathartic because I was SOOOO over the corporate world. I was hoping there was someone else there that could resonate with that feeling, and I wanted to document my life as I went through this transition of going into full retirement. I was hoping for about 50-100 views on the video because I heard hardly anyone sees your first 10 videos, which I was okay with because I figured it would give me time to get used to being on camera. I posted a 2nd video a few days later. I truly never expected the channel to grow sooo fast as it did, because by Friday I had met the monetization requirements. It took another week to actually get approved! It's been a bit overwhelming but in a good way! I'm so excited to be here. I still have a lot to learn. I say all of that not to brag but to say, JUST POST THE DANG THING! 🤗🤗🤗 Do it scared, do it messy, but just do it! because your future self will thank you! ❤️❤️

What's your familiarity with AI?
A few days ago, I had a friend (mid-60s) tell me that she knows absolutely nothing about AI. She doesn't get it. She uses ChatGPT every now and then to ask it questions, but doesn't know what's special about it. It just feels like a slightly different version of a Google search. That gave me the opportunity to explain it to her, which was a challenge and a delight. I have a YouTube channel that specializes in AI, but sometimes I forget that there's an audience that may not be using it yet, or is but doesn't really get it. If you could answer the poll based on your experience, I would be open to teaching a class going over the basics or how and why everyone should be using it. Drop a comment down below if you'd be interested in attending.

Hi John, it's great that you are striving to teach others about AI! I am forced to use AI at work, literally! They don't want any employees slacking off and being less efficient now... As a Project Manager myself, it's come in real handy to manage details, prepare presentations, and just keep track of what is happening, it's a real game changer at work, and now I say I would cry if our AI tool was taken away!! 😭 I would definitely automate what I could at work it's on them!! But knowing what I know and learned so far I have my reservations about automating anything in my personal life and would avoid that for much longer. However definitely enjoy using it for travel planing, retirement strategies, bouncing ideas for YouTube etc.. it's fun!

@Karen Taylor Yes that would be my question as well, @John Charette pls share examples of what can be automated, how, when, why and what it requires to getting started (as an idea for a YouTube video of course!). While I have work experience with this, I don't see using this "automation agent" in my personal life.. unless it's to clean out my junk email folder... and even then I would be worried it deleted something that didn't belong there!! 😆

I'm excited to catch up with you if you can make it or even part of it - you are welcome to drop in! I have been out of the loop for the last week with my daughter back from overseas with us this past week. Thankfully she is here for another week but we have all been attending wedding events for one of her besties who had a Hindu wedding, which was spectacular to witness. I've never seen so many glorious fabrics and outfits all in the one venue as I've seen this week, but I am looking forward to getting back onboard with my favourite hobby and find out what you crazy kids have been up to 😅
