I would try to recreate a block party (the basics) or a cypher at least and explain the roots at the same time. So that the mind would be anchored in the body and feeling = the experience. To feel the necessity to express and the beauty of the process more than the move. Then i would dig into the pleasure of it so that it can create energy for his entire life. And now we can talk about the rest.

@Frost DaCosta Love that answer! It is living in me, breath is so important yet almost too obvious, but so deeply connected to everything that it can be really hard to work on! i need to meditate on that!! 😂

What is breaking? ELI5
What do you think makes breaking look like breaking? Context: I took a waving class, and it was very clear what makes waving look like waving- basically moving a ball of energy around. It got me thinking: what actually makes breaking look like breaking? I remember a while ago this came up and the discussion was “footwork makes breaking, breaking.” But then look at Pocket vs Menno at RBBC1 2015. Pocket wins with almost no footwork. If anything, the main things Menno and Pocket share are the basic two-step in toprock, baby freezes, and headstand. I’ve also heard people say “breaking is anything, just put some breakin’ flava on it,” but even that’s tricky because not everyone wants that classic Bronx flavour anymore. Dancers like Amir or Wing Zero are way outside that traditional style. So now I’m wondering: if footwork isn’t actually essential for something to look like breaking, why is it one of the first things taught? Cause it’s easy? But even then, the 6-step- which is often taught as foundation- wasn’t that originally made to teach ballet dancers because “real breaking” was too hard? Are CCs an original move from the crew? Even 1-step and reverse 1-step have been in capoeira long before breaking. And then there’s that 1950s African video where it pretty much looks like breaking to me. Just less structured. So… What even is breaking in simple terms? Is it just going crazy with levels and spinning? Idk. Am I going crazy? Do you guys think about this?

@Mark Teo i totaly see your point. I will go deeper. It is about losing the control the society have on your body. It means you can lose the control in all different level technicaly, emotionnaly, spiritualy... it is very important also to make a difference between mastery and control. Control close up, it tighten your grip on something were mastery is more about having the hability to lose control without losing technic (skill methodz 😁👍) see the samurai talking about their grip on the katana that needs to be lose, only by the little finger sometimes.

🧠 Call Reflection: When the Movement Outgrows the Moves
FM Skool: November 14th Group Call I'm a bit late on this one but ..... This call wasn’t about footwork or techniques. It was about why we move — and who we become through it. A few things stood out: ⚡ BREAKIN' IS PHILOSOPHICAL, NOT JUST PHYSICAL. The dance becomes a mirror. It shows your frustration, discipline, ego, and maturity. But it can’t fix what you refuse to face. ⚡ IDENTITY CAN'T STAY ATTACHED TO THE DANCE. Injuries, age, and life force us to confront this. Many of us hid behind our B-boy/B-girl persona. But when that fades, the real question shows up:Who are you without the movement? ⚡THE COMMUNITY NEEDS MATURITY. Too many dancers are “in the dark”—reactive, insecure, and copying what they see without real guidance. Our job as elders is to bring them “into the know.” ⚡WARRIOR ENERGY NEEDS REFINEMENT. Aggression isn’t depth. Ego isn’t confidence. A true warrior is fierce and gentle. That’s the example the next generation needs. ⚡ THIS IS WHY FM EXISTS. Not just for drills or better movement. But for conversations like this—about identity, growth, purpose, and evolution. There was a LONGER take on this but you can perhaps check out the 2hour call 😅 Call → fm - Breakin' Is Philosophical (you can also find in 'group calls' in classroom)
