Boss is one of those designer fragrance houses that rarely gets the respect it deserves. It is not normally viewed in the same class as Dior, Chanel, Hermès or Guerlain, but Boss has quietly produced some very good fragrances over the years. The problem is that they have also released a lot of average flankers, causing the stronger releases to get lost in the crowd. The backbone of the house is obviously Boss Bottled. The original brought that recognizable apple, cinnamon, and warm woody DNA that became one of the defining designer profiles of its era. It was clean, masculine, slightly sweet, and easy to wear without becoming another generic blue fragrance. Performance on the modern version is not what it once was, but the scent itself remains a designer classic. Where Boss has really improved is with the darker and more concentrated Bottled releases. Boss Bottled Elixir took the line into a much richer direction with incense, vetiver, and cedar. It feels darker, drier, and more mature than the traditional Boss Bottled DNA. It does not smell like the typical safe office fragrance people associate with the brand. Boss Bottled Absolu may be the strongest overall fragrance Boss has released in recent years. The roasted leather, patchouli, myrrh, cedar, and amber give it genuine depth. It is smooth, dark, slightly smoky, and much more expensive-smelling than most people expect from Boss. This is where the line begins moving beyond ordinary designer territory and starts approaching the feel of an entry-level private-line fragrance. Triumph Elixir is another solid release, built around vetiver, patchouli and violet leaf. I find it greener, earthier and somewhat easier to wear than the original Elixir, although it does not have quite the same darkness or presence. It is a good fragrance, but with so many Bottled variations available, it can also feel like Boss filling every possible space within the line. The newer Boss Bottled Beyond changes direction again with ginger and leather. It is fresher and more modern than Absolu or Elixir, while still attempting to retain some depth. This demonstrates both the strength and weakness of Boss: the company continues experimenting with the Bottled name, but the line has become increasingly crowded.

Released in 2021, by Pierre Montale, the nose behind the entire Mancera line. This is the heavier, richer evolution of the original 2011 Cedrat Boise. The one point everyone should be talking about is that opening, some say it's comparable too Creed Aventus, but I'd pick this any day over the Creed. Here Montale took a bright citrus-fruit DNA and cranked it up with leather, oud and some serious woody depth, so much so that this is effectively a different fragrance entirely. Also worth noting: despite being labelled Eau de Parfum, it’s bottled at Extrait-level strength, which goes a long way toward explaining why it performs the way it does. You can tell with just a few sprays on the back of your hand. Note the oily film it leaves. That's a sure sign. It opens loud and proud, with a bright, zesty citrus hit alongside juicy, tart blackcurrant, with warm spices underneath so it never reads thin or sharp. If you’re here expecting a straight Aventus clone, hang around: that fruit burst fades faster than you think. Within 45 minutes it darkens up considerably, smooth leather, creamy white sandalwood, and soft Cambodian oud bringing a gentle, refined smokiness rather than anything harsh or medicinal. The jasmine is polite and well-behaved, just a touch of elegance, while patchouli leaves add a clean, earthy-green anchor that keeps it grounded. By the dry-down, warm vanilla, polished grey amber, wild oakmoss and that signature Mancera white musk wrap everything up. Its luxurious, rounded, and surprisingly balanced. The leather and oud don’t scream; they just give the scent real weight and maturity. Performance is surprisingly closer to the 8hour mark than I expected. With strong projection for the first few hours, then a solid, noticeable trail that clings to clothes and lasts well into evening. It settles beautifully and is also noticeably sweeter and heavier than the original. Fantastic in cooler weather, evenings and autumn/winter, but far too dense and syrupy for scorching summer days. And yes, the hype is largely deserved. It’s not perfect, and it’s not cheap, but if you want serious performance and depth rather than just flashy marketing. This is the one.

Going back to one of my favorites, Terre d’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver. Such a beautiful DNA that just gets better with a smoother but still very present Vetiver. Could not ask for more.

Dior’s luxury fragrance line, La Collection Privée Christian Dior, is one of the strongest private collections offered by a major designer house. It sits somewhere between traditional French luxury perfumery and modern niche. The fragrances are generally polished, smooth, and easy to wear, but many still have enough character to separate them from Dior’s mainstream designer releases. One of the biggest strengths of the collection is its variety. Dior covers elegant florals, citrus fragrances, ambers, woods, oud compositions, gourmands and more artistic chypre-style scents. Gris Dior is probably the best representation of the line: refined, slightly mysterious and versatile, with rose, woods and a modern chypre character. Ambre Nuit is another standout, combining soft amber and rose without becoming overly sweet or heavy. Bois d’Argent offers a beautiful mixture of iris, incense and smooth woods, while Oud Ispahan provides the darker rose-and-oud side of the collection. Dior currently presents these among the collection’s emblematic signatures. The lighter side of the line is equally important. Fragrances such as Lucky, Sakura, Dioriviera and Jasmin des Anges show that Dior can make florals and fresh fragrances that smell expensive without becoming too complicated. Jasmin des Anges is especially attractive because of its fruity apricot, honey, and jasmine character. These fragrances are not always the most powerful performers, but they have a clean, elegant quality that works well in warm weather or professional settings. Under Francis Kurkdjian, the line has gradually moved toward a more modern and accessible direction. Newer releases tend to have clearer scent profiles, smoother textures and broader appeal. That can be viewed as both a strength and a weakness. They are easy to enjoy and beautifully blended, but some lack the depth and unusual character associated with older Dior exclusives. The collection’s newest direction also includes richer Esprit de Parfum interpretations and fragrances such as the almond-centered Dior Paradise.

If you’re after that perfect Mediterranean summer in a bottle, this is Mancera’s take on “la dolce vita”. Released back in 2019, created by the house’s founding perfumer Pierre Montale. A bright, unisex Floral Woody Musk that aims to capture the warmth of the Italian sun along the Amalfi Coast. A point worth noting: while it sits firmly in their sun‑soaked Mediterranean collection, it never falls into the trap of being overly sweet or synthetic; it’s built to feel like natural warmth rather than just another “summer scent”, and it seems to be overlooked next to the brand’s bigger hits, which is a shame. It’s unisex through and through, and strikes that rare balance between character and everyday wearability. It opens with bright, juicy citrus,sharp enough to wake you up but soft, touched with just a pinch of pink pepper for a gentle spark and a whisper of cardamom that adds subtle warmth right from the start, stopping it from feeling thin or one‑sided. Once that initial burst fades, soft aquatic notes roll in like a light sea breeze, paired with a clean, dewy rose, nothing old‑fashioned or powdery here—and fresh patchouli leaves that keep it grounded and green. As it settles fully, you get that classic Mancera polish: smooth vetiver, crisp cedar, warm grey amber, and their signature pristine white musk that ties everything together perfectly. On performance, this is where it surprises most people. It’s fresh, yes—but still very much Mancera. On skin I get 6 hours solid wear, with a clean, pleasant sillage that stays close enough for work but travels nicely in warm air. Even in high heat it just radiates that effortless, sunny vibe. Versatility is its strongest suit: It works everywhere: office days, warm evenings, weekends away—if you want that relaxed, sun‑kissed Mediterranean vibe that doesn’t feel like you’re trying too hard, this one’s absolutely worth having.
