New High Performance Classroom Package
I’ve had a little bit of fun over the last couple of days putting together a high-performance training package in my classroom. What’s high-performance training about, I hear you ask? Well, in a nutshell, it’s just some ideas on how to behave within teams so that you get the best out of each other. I find it super interesting, and I get a massive thrill when teams take some of the ideas on and do really well as a result. A quick shout-out to @Daniel Halls . You mentioned you were putting your own high-performance stuff together, particularly around psychological safety. You inspired me to put what I had into my classroom. Now you can use what you need for your own course structure. I hope it helps you mate. It might at least point you in the right direction. I made this package up a couple of years ago when I was going through a Star Wars photography phase. The course is within my premium classroom. I’ll offer a free preview to 3 of you who are interested in taking a look.

Thanks for putting this all together mate. I’ll be sure to get stuck into it when I have some down time. Love your enthusiasm and leadership in this community. Here’s to more collaboration!
How To Lead People Older, Younger & Wildly Different Than You
What do you think of this portrayal of how to treat different generations? As a Gen X Man, I’m pretty confident that if you give me freedom to work the way I like with a sprinkle of autonomy, I’ll do just about anything for you. I actually use this a bit at work due to the fact that 80% of the workforce are millennials and Gen Z. Having said that, there’s something about young people that join the military that sets them apart from these normal stereotypes. What’s your workforce like in comparison?

@David East 💯 I see parts of this in healthcare for sure, but it’s never that simple. You’ll get trends across age groups, but honestly, it comes down more to experience and confidence than generation. I’ve worked with new grads who want clear structure, and senior staff who just want to be left alone to get on with it. That autonomy piece you mentioned is bang on. In ED especially, once someone feel a little more comfortable in what they are doing, trust goes a long way. Micromanage them and you lose them and their confidence pretty quickly. I guess for me, it’s less about “what generation are they” and more about “what does this person need right now?”

@David East it certainly didn't come easy. Lots of reflection on myself and development first before I could turn to others. But I'm glad I can now support others to the best of my ability
Loving Where I Live
Living on an Air Force Base ✈️ Sometimes it’s really quiet. Some days can be absolutely awesome. Today the RAAF Roulettes are in town for the Royal Easter Show. We are always lucky to get an impromptu aerobics display when they’re here. The wife and kids absolutely love it. I especially love the fact that I know some of the pilots flying those awesome planes. What a job. Who’s seen The Roulettes?

Gratitude For Defence Families
Yesterday was a good day. We ran an Easter Egg Hunt for Defence families in the Western Sydney region. An opportunity to gather families together and show some appreciation for what the Defence member is doing, as well as highlighting the awesome support that their spouses are providing. My wife and kids had a great time hunting Easter eggs, patting alpaca's with awesome haircuts and making new friends. Where there are Defence families, there is plenty of gratitude. Some of the things we ask our members and families to deal with are not normal daily situations. We've got member's posted in the Middle East, South Sudan, Poland and everywhere in between. Being a spouse at home with the kids while your partner is in some of those places, while nerve wracking, provides a sense of pride while stretched. Throwing a few Easter eggs around is a simple thing we can do to show that gratitude, but it's the relationships that are built that makes it worthwhile.

This looked like this was an awesome day mate. So glad you had a nice day with the family! Look very good in the airforce gear holding an alpaca!
New Starliner Case Study
I'll tell you something that blows my mind. When large organisations fail, there is definitely a lot that we can learn. I've added a new case study in the classroom called Boeing Starliner that goes into it. Members who are in the Human Factors Kickstart course cover this as part of the course. Go ahead and discuss it here if you feel inclined to do so.

@David East you are right that those are human behaviours. I guess the issue at hand is that it is not spoken about enough. I’m very new in my journey at providing my workshops, and the common uh huh moments is acknowledging that what happens in a team and challenging moments are normal human behaviours. Knowledge and perspective are key at working with the behaviour opposed to against it and labeling them generically as personality issues. In the healthcare systems it’s a mix of business and healthcare, I believe the two currently are not working together, but in silos. That’s what diminishes the ownership. And the handballing to someone else reduces ownerships. There is a lack of transparency, I remember asking an executive at the workshop how we were going to manage the ambulance offload challenge, she responded abruptly with a forceful tone of “there are conversations in the background” with a room full of ED Nurses, it broke the trust quicker than I could take a breath, why bother asking any questions when that is the response. 🤷‍♂️
