Q81:One of the most important purposes of practicing qigong is to preserve one's life and maintain a complete form. In real life, how should one seek good fortune and avoid misfortune? Should one try to avoid risks as much as possible?
One student:"However, a firm and tenacious will often needs to be tempered in hardship, even in the face of risks. How should one strike a balance between the two?"
Dr.Pang said:
On the contrary, I believe that a resilient will should be tempered in daily life and through ordinary tasks, rather than necessarily in risky situations.
For example, if someone says there’s a wobbly rock on a mountain that might tip over if you step on it, and you insist on testing it just to build courage—what if it flips and you fall to your death? Then what’s left to cultivate?
Therefore, we should avoid this kind of risky training. If we pay attention to the small details in daily life, treating every action, word, and deed as part of our qigong practice, our willpower will naturally become stronger. In this way, we can achieve what is called "seeking good fortune and avoiding harm."
