I'm making progress on cold calling. I went from 3-5 calls a week to 25-30 calls a day. I took advice from one of Zach's older videos and called FSBOs first to break through that first layer of fear so I don't screw up on a good lead. I'm still working on getting my first deal, but this whole project is starting to make sense to me. Where before I looked at wholesaling and everything looked like gibberish, now I can see the algorithm. It's time to put in the numbers.
The thing is.... I HATE talking on the phone. I mean, I make my wife make the phone call when we order Chinese food. I'm not scared of it, just hate it. But calling strangers and asking them to accept a 40%+ discount on buying their home.... I typically have a panic attack that starts when I sit at my desk, and doesn't end until I get in the shower to get ready to go to my job.
But here's the punchline! I'm a casino dealer. So at my job I'll sometimes take tens of thousands of dollars from someone and sometimes in minutes and give them nothing but a smile and a wisecrack in return (not in a nasty way mind you, but it's part of the entertainment), but I'm not at all uncomfortable. Not in the least. It's just my job, and I do it. But when I click call on my Google Voice account, and wait to see if I'll get a disconnected message or voicemail or hear the phone ring, my heart is jumping out of my chest.
So today I had to sit myself down and have a talk with myself to remind me of how ridiculous this is considering what I'll be doing in just a few hours. Now I was never really uncomfortable with people face to face, but it took me a while to get smooth enough to tell jokes while moving thousands of dollars away from a stranger and into the rack while dealing and not making mistakes. So despite my current anxiety, I'm getting back on the phone and calling the rest of my list, because I already know from past experiences, I will eventually be perfectly comfortable and the challenge will shift from managing my anxiety, to not sounding cold as I go after these deals.
Back to work! Time to make some money and turn my regular job into an option!
