Progress?
Hi everyone! I'm back with a very small update. [To catch you up if you don't remember, I'm the content creator who got laid off from her full time and figured it's a sign from the universe to get into something I've wanted to do for a while: videography.] Since my first post, I have (and continue to) faced several identity crises, including trying to start a content creation brand for businesses. I am still questioning what I'm doing and still very scared about literally everything but I finally got a business credit card (so I have time to pay everything off🫠) and bought a professional camera and some other equipment. I have no idea if it'll be enough but I will figure it out 🤷‍♀️🙃 My cousin is hosting an event this Sunday so I think I'll take this camera and see how everything comes out. I'll try to update you all afterwards ☺️
To gimbal or not to gimbal
Who is can't live without their gimbal? Who refuses anything but handheld? Tripods or Tri-don'ts? "tHeRe'S a PuRpOsE fOr EvErYtHiNg" yea, yea, yea, but what's your preferred way to shoot a wedding? My primary camera does not have IBIS, so I've only ever used it on a gimbal, but I'm falling more in love with the handheld look. Been thinking about making the switch and how I can practice a "steadier" hand.
Film Lengthssssss 🐍
Just trying to gauge how many minutes I should deliver for each wedding film? What does the average film look like for y’all for an elopement? Vs a whole wedding day? Or maybe even vs a wedding day of a couple who is a little camera-shy??? Would love y’all’s thoughts!
~for those of you who don't know me~
Hi everyone! I'm Amanda. Hopefully you all have time on your hands (and hopefully this is even allowed lol). I'm here after a couple of signs from the universe, and I don't know where to start so hopefully I don't confuse you all😅 I was working full time for a tech startup and was let go last week after working there for 7 years. It was a total gut punch and I'm really upset and nervous because my husband and I bought our first home 4 months ago, so it came at a really sucky time. Here is where video comes in: I started my content capturing (I hate content creator title lol) side hustle last March - instagram.com/beyondyourday. I've always loved editing videos, worked in the wedding industry before, and I live in NJ where you unfortunately need multiple incomes to be able to afford a home 🙃 I love content capturing and editing so I've been REALLY tempted to get into videography. Here's where the universe signs come in: I wasn't happy at my 9-5 and have been trying to decide if I should take the leap into videography and now with being let go, I feel like this may have been the push I needed. I also came across this podcast and page last week, so it's all some coincidental timing. The only thing holding me back from taking this leap is 1: my crippling imposter syndrome 2: I'm not exactly a gearhead and don't know where to start as far as equipment goes I am trying to push myself every day - even posting this is a little terrifying - so I'm hoping I can come back to this post in a few months and be really proud of how far I've come. If you made it this far and didn't stop after seeing "content creator"... thank you 🫶
Frame rate mindset
What frame rate is everyone shooting? Are you switching throughout the day for certain moments or are you sticking to 60fps all day for flexibility in post? What’s your thinking behind it? Do you prefer that natural motion blur at 24fps or do your clients not even notice.
